6MT Shift lights and shift timing
Just wanted to see what everyone here does when it comes to shifting near redline. I have the HUD in my windshield and was wondering when the best time to shift is once the yellow and red shift lights start working. Do you shift right before it turns red or 2 shift light bars after it turns red?
Also side question, has anyone ever bounced the rev limiter while shifting whether it's from losing traction or just simply getting to max rpms? |

The thing is there is no need to redline. Peek HP is not close to the redline. I typically go by what I hear.
I bounced off of my limiter few times in 1st and 2nd gear during sliding action. No issues. |

I dont have HUD but I wait for the countdown on the cluster. I love when it lights up all yellow and then counts down like the predator about to blow up.
I bounced off the limiter in 3rd and I blame it for spinning my hub. However, I did purchase the car with 12k miles on it and who knows what that guy/girl did before me.

^This/same here. I aim for shifting around 6500, which means I'm probably around 7 when I actually do shift. This thing revs so fast in the lower gears, I don't find the lights very helpful since they go through those revs so fast.

i wouldn't apply this to first and second, though, given that breaking traction is going to be a bigger issue in those gears. i know you have the 6MT ZCP (as do i) but if you look at any of the DCT launch control videos for the F8X you'll notice that it goes into second wayyyy before redline. i suspect this is just a result of testing various shift points and short shifting into second yielded the best times due to more power getting put down to the road.

For optimal acceleration, you want to shift at the point where the hp in the next higher gear is just starting to be greater than the hp in current gear. On a stock S55 it means 1st and 2nd need to be shifted at redline, and 3rd gear and 4th around 7300rpm and 7000rpm.

I set my steeringwheel to 7000 rpm so the lights starts to light up at 5800. When all of the lights starts to flash it's time to shift. I don't use the head-up display.
