Good luck OP, I wasn't mature enough at that age to have a car like that. My friends and I almost killed ourselves, each other and possibly others in "regular" cars. Hopefully you are different.........

This seems like his arms were fully extended - I don't think he was sitting close enough and/or he should have moved the steering wheel closer to him hard to control when you are locking out your arms

Mature or not, my opinion is that an 18yo shouldn’t be near this car. I don’t mean this in an offensive way OP, but I was an 18yo once upon a time and I would have gotten into some very serious trouble or worse if I had a car this fast. Newer driver + high hp + rwd isn’t a great idea. If you are asking this question, I suspect at least some part of you agrees.

there are 18 year olds who are very mature for their age. most aren't. i wasn't. for most auto enthusiast kids i think they can drive well in a bubble. but the second their friends are watching and the chest thumping starts you get into trouble.
f8x series cars are not exactly known to be friendly. the car has way more engine than braking ability or tire. boost can be spikey and paired with less than ideal stock tires its not a good recipe. the car is boring at low speeds and only comes alive at ridiculous ones. i'm guessing you don't want a 'cheaper' car. so in that case maybe try to find a similar priced cayman? its a more involving car. it will feel faster at similar speeds since you are lower and have less car around you. the driving position is also more gokart like. its got less power and more grip than the f80. if you're ok with a cheaper car then buy a new 86 and save the money/invest it.

Totally disagree the car isn’t boring at low or legal speeds, and Doesn’t need to be driven At high speeds like you say to feel like the car is alive. OP sounds wise beyond his years not everybody is a jack ass at 18. If I were a betting man my money would be on OP never putting that car into a tree or ditch…. Or coming back with a much do you think it would cost to fix this thread. |

I mean I got my F82 as a reckless and stupid 23 year old
Now I'm a reckless and stupid 26 year old and haven't had any issues . . . . . . . Just make sure if you've got a girlfriend you take water jugs out of the trunk before you let her drive it or you'll have to post pics of her here on this forum. |

It's not the OP we should be worried about.
It's the quality of his peer group. Poor quality friends will get you to do some dumb **** because they can lol

If this was a reward for earning yourself a good scholarship in some sense - do your 18 yr old self a favor: Take the money (half or more) that would go towards the F8X, and instead invest it and buy a beater car for college. Trust me, your future 48 year old self will thank you later.

I had an E36 M3 when I was 16 (in 2006) and I just about died more times than I can count (ironically, I wanted an E30 318is or a 325i, but my parents said it wasn't safe).
Go and get the M4, but honestly be prepared for life.

To me I think it’s important to have progression in your cars just like other aspects in life.
Going for a M4 as your first car is not wise. You should buy the new BRZ or GR86 in manual. Learn how to push the car 10/10ths and also have fun modding it. M4 has way too much power and ability even for experienced drivers - much less a new driver. |
