Picked up my car today. Dealer #1 said that there was no issues with the car and that the leaking that is on the turbo is completely normal. I pushed back and said that I'm surprised that this is normal and ended up asking to speak to a service manager. He brought in a foreman as well as my service adviser and they said they would speak to BMW NA about it to see what they could do. Crossing my fingers but I have a feeling this is going to go no where and that I'll be fighting a battle with BMW NA to get this resolved.

I did a code reading and there are no faults. The foreman who tried to explain the excess mentioned that it could be blow by. |

Little update - PUMA case was opened and BMW NA states that the residual oil is due to blow by. They said that the blow by on the car is within the normal specs so they won't be doing anything about it.
As much as I love my F82, quality control and service from BMW has just been terrible. I also have the front strut clicking issue which my dealer also refuses to fix because they've done the bulletin board to clean it but it hasn't fixed the issue. |

(id of posted a link if i new how to sorry)im sure I read if there's oil in the turbo s and pipes that it could be related to incorrect crankcase vacuum.as it's written on there they obviously know full well about the issue.hope this helps.

install a catch can and see how much you capture. if it's excessive then you can look into the crankcase pressure vent system or excessive blow by.
if not then the turbo shaft seal is leaking.

My 2015 F80 is burning through 1 liter of oil every 600 miles. Random white smoke from exhaust under mild acceleration and I cannot duplicate it. I've taken it to dealer twice and they can't find any leaks. They also said they cannot see the white smoke. Thank you for the above link, very helpful and hopefully will assist in a fix!

Which turbo was/is "leaking" (front or rear)? The "blow-by" oil is from the PCV system, and all BMW turbo engines have this issue because it's vented into the intake tract after the turbo and before the intercooler/heat exchanger. The only other oil source would be the oil lines going into the turbos themselves.
mbs49946 - oil smoke has a bluish tint; white smoke is usually caused by coolant entering the combustion chamber due to a defective head gasket.

I'm not sure if its the front or rear. As a quick update, after getting BMW NA involved and having the foreman open a PUMA case, BMW NA has said that the leakage/blow-by is within spec and normal. They've decided to have my local dealership do a leakage test anyway and they've said they have ordered a new seal for the inlet pipe that goes into the turbo compressor. They've also decided to fix my front struct clicking issue that I've brought into the dealership multiple times. This is all right before my warranty ends so hopefully no more issues going forward... |

Update: warranty is now over but they fixed everything before hand. I opened up the under carriage once I got the car back and no leak (yet). I installed downpipes and the car sounds so much louder, especially in combination with MPE.
They ended up fixing my front strut clicking issue as well after the third time I complained about it. The moral of the story is that if something is wrong, make the dealer fix it. You would think they would be willing to do all they can to help you said they get paid but I had to bring my car in multiple times and talk to a service manager to get my SA and the foreman to really take care of my issues. Persistence is key and know your rights in regards to warranty coverage. |

Glad you got it sorted out and was successful in fighting the man.. The good news is that although your warranty has officially expired, the fact that the issue was noted/repaired under factory coverage, there is a small window of time, like 90 days, that would allow them to submit a revised claim and get it covered, should this same issue reappear within this time period. This scenario I mention had worked for me with a defective headlight module when my warranty had expired, after a previous covered repair.. |
