Yea mine was really snug trying to get it to slip over. I got it enough to just sit on the crank bolt. The. Used the bolts to push it on. Just went slowly in a cross pattern. Until it had been pushed all the way on. Took a while. The one I did did a customer this weekend just slipped right on really easily. Not sure why there's a difference.

The difference is probably the bolt head tolerances or the CBC tolerance.
An engineer can correct but usually when fasteners are made, the tolerances are closely monitored in thing like thread pitch and hole size vs the head of a bolt unless the application of said fastener is required in a confined space. |

To get that bolt hole alignment you usually need to rotate the CBC one or two more ticks around the bolt face. The pattern of the slots on a Vargas CBC lines up like 98% of the time with the pulley bolt holes. There is indeed one small angle that doesn't let the bolts line up, but a guy had success with a dremel adjusting the ends of the slots in the CBC a tiny bit. This tweaking doesn't weaken the bolt clamping ability as long as the bolts can still be torqued properly.

lol, well I'm just outside DC near Dulles. If you're mechanically inclined I linked a video(not done by me) but it's the process I follow. Install takes about 2 hours taking your time. There's zero need to drop the radiator, oil cooler, etc. Just go in from the bottom. If the belt slips then remove the carbon brace and intake and release the tensioner. I've done a couple installs and haven't had the belt slip. Hoping I continue with that luck as I've got a few more installs lined up.

Can confirm I did this from the top by only removing the airbox and unclipping the radiator hose. I do have pretty small hands though. One piece of advice would be to have multiple small extensions for your ratchet / torque wrench. I had a hard time getting the tools to fit just right between the pulley and the fan.

Got the CBC installed yesterday but I thought I noticed louder engine idle noise after picking it up, so of course my paranoia is in full gear and I'm not sure if it's just in my head or if it's real.
Anyone willing to take a video of their engine at idle with hood up so I can compare? marauder1 foxfire235 Imperial328i MasterYous. Mine is below if anyone can comment if it's abnormal or not. Really appreciate the help guys! https://vimeo.com/553485010

To the folks that have tackled this little project themselves. Have any of you taken the extra precaution and attempted to put an extra 1/8 or 1/4 turn on the crank bolt before you install the CBC? If so, how do you keep the crank from spinning as you turn the crank in a DCT car. I know the manual cars have the flywheel teeth to lock up with a large screwdriver/pry bar.

Any other recommendations for shops in SoCal? Just looking to do the CBC. I’m in Santa Barbara but willing to make the drive to LA for the right price. The local shop here (HP Autosport) quoted $1k in labor, which sounds a bit high to me? That RSR place has some sketchy Yelp reviews so not too sure about it, also all the way in Anaheim..

I paid $400 in NorCal, which is notorious for high labor rates as well
