Essex AP Racing brakes are the best brakes to have on an F8X. There is a reason these get snapped up whenever they’re for sale used. I’ll admit I was skeptical at first, but as the session went on and heat built into the brakes they just got better and better. It gave me tremendous confidence to know I could brake much harder if I needed to, but since this is only my second track day since my crash last year, I was braking at 7-8/10 in most places. I tried to keep ABS out of the picture.
DTC-70s tolerate a ton of heat, but they didn’t like the fact I didn’t bed them in before getting them hot. I showed up at the track, swapped pads, and went straight out. This made the rotors very angry and they responded by resonating from the pad deposits. I took it easy and made a couple circuits of the roads around the track to bed them in cold, then went back out and everything was beautiful after that. Ferrodo say that the pads aren’t meant for street use, but they seemed to work fine with plenty of bite when cold and only a tiny bit of squeaking. The real test is in two weeks when I return to Monza. I will try to have temperature strips by then as well. |

What spring rates are you running, and are you happy with them? I'm contemplating the Ohlins for next year, but want to break into the 2:09's on stock suspension before.

How did the front brake cooling ducts come out?? I would love to see some pics. I should post my latest lap times too. It was my first event on the track with my 2017 F80 ZCP, 6MT. PFC08 brakes, PFC665 fluid. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Otherwise totally stock. Track: Watkins Glen Best lap 2:18.49 I think I have a lot of room to improve still. It took me the first day to "unlearn" my B8 S4 and dig deeper into the turns with the brakes. The problem with the PS4S tires is that they get greasy when I start running this fast for more than a few laps. I also got my PFC08 super hot on the back straight going into the bus stop, had some serious pad smear/deposits. The upside is the brakes were nice and quiet for a few weeks after. Now that the deposits have worn off, PFC08 is LLOOUDD for the street. Old school bus or dump truck loud, announcing to the world that "I've arrived". Until next season... |

Yooo Zach!
Thanks man! I've come a long way this past year, 18 tracks days and a car control clinic since this last time we met. I have a bunch more laptimes to post too when I get around to it. The front ducts came out great. They definitely helped keep the brakes cooler. I don't have any measured temperature data but the fronts aren't "tinging" anymore when I come off track and there's no brake fade at all. I can send you some pics if you want but I followed this guide and made a few tweaks: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1310391 2:18 at the Glen is impressive for your first time on track with the car! Yea the PS4S tires get real greasy when you work em hard, that tracks also very demanding. Mine were getting destroyed without camber plates, might wanna think about a set of those and some designated track wheels/tires for next year. My calipers turned green at the Glen and I burned through a set of front pads in a day lol the cooling ducts woulda helped a lot. I feel you with the track pads though, my RS29's are doin the same thing now. Sounds like a train stopping haha |

Track: Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Misano Adriatica, Italy.
Time: 2:01.75 measured using raw Go Pro video timing Car: 2018 M3 Suspension: Nitron R1 coilovers with 450/750 springs and front camber plates. Brakes: Essex AP Racing 9660 with Ferrodo DTC-70 front pads and titanium shims. 3D-printed front cooling scoops, v2. D2500 pads in rear on stock calipers. Porsche GT3 front scoop rear cooling plus ducted hoses. Wheels/tires: 18” BMW 513M with Yokohama Advan A052s. The track has gotten a lot of use lately and was a damn mess. Going offline meant tons of pick-up on the tires and it took several corners to get the grip back. This track beats the crap out of the left front tire and puts a fair bit of heat in the left rear, so I will be rotating them before going to Monza (another clockwise circuit) next weekend. |

1:01.10 NYG M4CS (NT01, PFC08/11, MP HAS, GC Camber Plates) NT01s were toasted after an entire season so I decided to have a little more fun than I should have. Overall still happy with my improvement. I think I'm in the 1:00 if I didn't drift out of turn 7 or slide into no name straight/uphill. Either way, criticism always welcome from anyone. |

My PB is 1:01:12 in a civic M3 with the same mods besides brakes. I ran with Ferodo Dsuno.
I ran that on lap 3 of first event of the start of this past season. Lol. Fresh rear NT01s and half woren fronts. Times were a second off remainder of the year. Could probably break 1:00 if I ran fresh front and rears. Waiting on RE71Rs to come out with a 18" in 305 and then it'll be very easy to do. |

Not the smartest thing I've done in life. Go racing in 40 degree weather, on shot RE71rs, on a track you have never raced on before, in the HPDE4 run group which is pretty much do whatever you wan't, don't be d*ick.
NJMP - Thunderbolt 1:31.30 Lappy (RE71R, Eibach Springs, GC Camber Plates) I am mentally exhausted and happy I didn't die lol. Couldn't even THINK about touching the outside curbs cause it was like driving on ice. Legit 29s out there in some normal conditions and the ability to track out onto the curbing. Enjoy the slidefest Last edited by Lappy; 11-06-2019 at 06:55 AM.. |

Yes he does. Should be (mostly) up to date now. PM me directly for errors or omissions. There are a couple of posts that have info nicely on one line like I like it, but no mention which track.
Top tip. If I've "appreciated" your post it means I've put it up on the big board. This is how I keep track of which posts I've gone through. Biggest thing that slows me down is trying to sift through posts for all the information and then having to hand type it in instead of the poster putting it all on one line so I can just copy and paste. Please post up your info on one line in the following format to help expedite things: Laptime Username Car (tires, pads, significant mods) Been really busy this year with the E36 race car. I've been fairly dominant in my local clubs. I've set 4 class track lap time records, have locked up the ProAuto Sports PS2 championship already, and have an outside chance at the NASA GTS3 championship even though I've missed a few events. Two more events for NASA this year, so I'll focus on those and go for the double championship. I'll probably take the first half of next year off and refresh the race car. It is absolutely beat to hell and is literally being held together by zip ties, racers tape, and coolant quick stop (leaking head gasket). Being the class frontrunner, my biggest fun this year has been picking on the big bore race cars that are lagging behind, lol! These frickin Corvettes are all over the place, banging on me, slamming the door on me etc. On this video, you'll see I get the last laugh though.
