Lips and Drilling?
Hey All,
Do all front lips require DRILLING into the front bumper? I have a '18 F80 in Avus Blue for reference which didn't come with a performance lip I have the OEM Diffuser and Splitters coming my way both in CF. Looking to add the CF CS Lip from RW, XPH, or OEM Matte black lip. |

We strongly recommend drilling the front lips; it won't last with tape only.

Don't listen to anyone that says you only need double sided tape. A lot of downforce is generated at highway speeds. I've seen people driving on the road and their lips are all bending and bowing downward. It stays on, but I don't think they know how dumb it looks while they're driving.
I've also seen examples where lips tore off and they just run over it — this is with screws installed. This is why the MPerformance lip comes with a support insert and requires a ridiculous amount of screws drilled into the bumper. The OEM CS and GTS lips come with metal brackets to hard mount the lip to the chassis — the imitations don't. |

I remember when I was a kid…. I had a 98 Honda prelude with a greddy front lip double sided taped on.
Hit a nice water puddle during a storm and it ripped off. I didn't notice it was gone until the next morning |

Would not recommend just double side tape for front lip.

And STILL use tape, even where the screws go. I used 3M VHB 1/2in or wider. Go heavy, not light. A well taped lip should stay on by itself, but the added protection of screws is needed. Nobody wants to run over their own dislodged lip and hear it rip it off… Above keeps my Vorsteiner on at 170MPH no probs. Over and over.
