M Performance Exhaust Crack Repair in MA

I'm looking for recommendations on a shop in Central-Eastern Mass to repair my muffler and weld on braces to prevent it from cracking again. I'd prefer a shop that specializes in titanium welding or that has experience doing this type of repair on MPE.

Thanks in advance

How would a brace prevent cracking?

Google TIG welder or Ornamental Metals Fabricator in your region. Almost any AWS certified welder will be able to get this done.

Titanium is pretty much as easy as Stainless Steel to weld. Just need to use the applicable filler.

Thanks.

Adding the support braces reduces the load on the exhaust pipe-muffler weld joint.

That crack is heat-affected zone embrittlement and the error is fundamentally in the weld itself + heat cycles + fatigue. It's just a poorly done/prepped MIG weld.

You could reinforce the area but the best solution here would be to grind down the weld and redo it. You can't backgouge or put a backing plate in there so a good welder will know what to do here.

- Structural Eng. (I don't weld, I only spec/design welds so trust the welder)

Tailored Chassis Solutions in Millbury MA. They have their own fabrication shop with some top notch welders. They fixed up my friend's V1 MPE and a leak on my EL midpipe. Check them out on IG if you want to see their portfolio they're a great group of guys

Do you know how much they charged him to fix the MPE? they just quoted $1,100 to repair the crack and weld supports. 6 hours of labor (includes removal and installation of muffler) at $150/hr and $200 for materials (0.5" titanium tubing).

Remove the muffler yourself and bring it to them. Sounds like a $350-500 job in that case.

$150/hr is a very reasonable price for a tig welder.

$200 for half an inch of titanium tubing material/fabrication is pretty shitty.

There's around 2-3 hours of work for grinding/welding. I agree with above, take off the exhaust yourself if you can.
