Conti extreme contacts

Hi,
My M3CS came w a set of new Conti extreme contact sport+ tires. I’ve noticed that over concrete highway sections they are really loud much louder than my 997 running Michellien 4s tires.

I was wondering if someone can chime in and let me know if they are running the * Michelins 4s and if it’s quieter on concrete highway stretches? Or is it loud just do to the M3 itself. I have a set on order but not arriving now till august

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated

Sound and comfort wise I don't think you'll feel or hear much different inside the cabin. Lower your tire psi by 2-3 psi and see how they feel. Should be bit more comfortable.

Generally speaking, continental tires have softer sidewalls than michelins. So ride comfort will go towards the continentals. But often times, feels mushy around corner. PS4S wins for performance.

Thanks what cold temps are you running? Was just surprised how much quieter the 997 is on the same roads than the m3, especially since the rears are 325 on the 911 and only 285 on the m3

Its quiet on asphalt road surfaces, what had me wondering if there is a harmonic mismatch or something between the Contis and the m3.

I have 666M with PS4S. I'm running 34 psi cold. I don't mind the road noise lol.

I'm on them on my F82 as well. They are louder tires. The tire guy said they *just* recently came out with a new iteration of them that is quieter.

It's hard to eliminate road noise completely on 30 series sidewalls. Maybe 35 is bit more comfortable.

But OP has double stagger, in width and diameter. So running 35 series all around is out of the equation.

I think PS4S will be slightly less noisier but the difference is very minimal. I'd just recommend to lower tire psi by 2-3psi and run your current set till the end of its life and then switch to PS4S or something else.

It’s just sooooo much louder on the concrete type pavement than asphalt which had me scratching my head. I’m use to driving sports cars and low profiles but honestly this is the loudest of any car I’ve ever owned from what I can surmise it just tire noise or tire resonance in the wheel well combo

Maybe your tires are not properly balanced? You could take it to a tire shop that do road force balancing. Maybe the surface difference is adding to more NVH.

Ran them at 30psi cold today and it helped probably 20% lower noise over the same stretch of highway

I would think if my wheels are not balanced I would have vibrations… no vibrations just mouser over concrete like surfaces perfectly fine noise levels on asphalt.

I’m thinking I’ll just wear these down and install the Michelins when they finally arrive.

These cars just have more NVH than others. Concrete roads definitely transmit more noise into the cabin — a loud whistling/whirring noise. I've had Conti ECS, Michellin PS4S and Bridgestone RE71R. The Conti was the quietest and softest side-wall of the three by a mile.

All three sets were 35 series front and 30 rear. Here is the exact info on sizes.

Conti ECS
19x9.5 - 265/35/19
19x10.5 - 305/30/19

Michelin PS4S
19x10 - 265/35/19
20x11 - 295/30/20

Bridgestone RE71R
19x10 - 265/35/19
20x11 - 295/30/20

*my Conti was not double stagger but still had the 35/30 series profiles like the other set ups.

Even though the ECS was the most comfortable, I feel like the PS4S has the best overall compromise in terms of comfort/performance. I'm on my 5th set of PS4S.

So the contis were the quiet ones? Wow ok I guess I’ll just wear these out before switching to to PS4s just crazy it’s loader than the Porsche
