BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
Sold

Item Interest
Putting a feeler thread out to see if there's a right next owner for my baby. I was prompted to make this by randomly floating the car to another forum member looking for a sort of similar configuration - it just kind of happened, I guess. So, that inspired me to make the feeler post here. I'm not sold on getting rid of her, but for the right offer and owner, anything is available - and I'm really not interested in a part-out; I'll keep the car here for a while longer before going considering that process. If buyer is open to buying through dealership as a passthrough transaction, I could have more flexibility on the final #.

After putting the time in to typing out all of the details and, for the first time in my ownership, trying to put an actual 'price' to things, I figured to at least see if there was someone in the world missing this exact car in their life.

Posted at 58+ obo to satisfy the price requirement; but feel free make an offer on this atypical car.

You make the winning offer and I guarantee you'll never 'run into your car' somewhere else; I've had it for 7 years and it's just not happening. If I recall correctly, there were 2 of these things built for North America, with a total of 5 globally. I have paperwork/email trails from BMW NA head of individual ordering confirming it as such (the mythical 'Maria' for anyone in the know; a contact of mine throughout the spec process).

The car:
  • One Owner Individual 2015 F80 DCT in Le Mans Blue Metallic, Euro Delivered in May 2015.
  • Just a shade over 40k miles as of today
  • Interior: Black full leather
  • Options: Everything except moonroof and Drivers Assist Package (Yes, this includes CCBs, which had pads replaced at approx 65-70% life remaining.)

Not easily removable Modifications:
  • Car has had the VTT Crank Hub solution installed, but has never (NEVER!) been tuned for higher engine output.
  • BavSound upgrade of all speakers and underseat woofers
  • ALP/Netradar radar detector/laser jammer system is installed. Very stealth install, control box is hidden inside the 'ash tray', a tiny LED is mounted high above the rearview mirror, and that's all you'll see in the car. This has the bluetooth addon module and the hifi speaker option as well. System was installed in 2016, then completely overhauled in 2020 to install a more capable 'brain' and replace all jammer heads, as well as radar horn and GPS antenna.
  • Retrofit of the full F80 CS suspension: Purchase of sub 1,000 mile ZCP Dampers (From forum member T1M3LESS who had the lovely stealth black ZCP featured on this forum), purchase of a brand new MPHAS kit and ZCP Swaybars, and BMW CS software loaded on the car. All installed over the past winter, likely less than 2500 miles on the setup - it transformed the car, FWIW.
  • F82 GTS Differential/Steering/Transmission software
  • Entire front is clearbra'd since new - has been overhauled since; ppf is in 8/10 shape per my judgement as of now - See detailers domain 'le mans blue m3' feature for install details. Additionally the complete CF roof and rear-quarters to the style line are ppf'd.
  • 35% tint on rear windows and back glass, 50% on fronts
  • Rogue Engineering race stud kit - installed to ensure safe wheel changes, given 19" wheels and CCB rotors.

Other Modifications (None of the original parts were changed, new were sourced for modification):
  • AWE Switchpath resonated exhaust
  • LCI Tails installed
  • Alcantara steering wheel made from new sourced OEM core - with matched LMB centering stripe and cross-pattern M tri-color stitching
  • FULL CF seat shells/backs, not the center insert part only
  • Custom alcantara door pulls, with cross-pattern M tri-color stitching
  • AutoTeknik paddle shifters done by IND in LMB with CCB matched gold inserts for the + and -
  • CF DCT gear shifter
  • CF Transmission console trim
  • CF steering wheel center trim piece
  • Dinan full CF intake
  • LMB matched engine cover with gloss black striping/lettering
  • BC Forged RS-40 wheels in gloss black - 19" custom fitment to clear the CCBs without needing to run 20". MPSS rubber in 295/275 fitted, has only about 4k gentle/moderate miles on them
  • RKP CF Diffuser
  • Factory 437m's in silver are fitted with a set of RE-71R rubber, that's quite near end of life - but the wheels are in good condition.
  • 5 and 10mm future classic spacers would come with the car - on stock suspension neither are needed for either set of wheels. On the CS with MPHAS setup, the RS40's need a 5mm and the 437's need a 7mm to clear, or maybe its the other way around, I can't recall offhand in this moment, but suffice to say it'll come with both - and with 2 full factory sets of wheel bolts in the event you wanted to go back to stock springs/perches.

Other details:
  • Routine blackstone reports in hand
  • Jan 2020: Transmission/Radiator/Differential flushes performed at time of Crank Hub service - photos from install all available.
  • Binder of service records
  • all original parts would come with the car - easy return to full stock if desired (Besides the stock speakers, I'm pretty sure I have it all, even down to screws/clips.

The bad:
In the entire time I've had the car, I have had two issues. About a year ago, give or take, I had one O2 sensor go bad. And, at the time of crank hub serviice being done, there was a very minor seep found on the passenger side (?) turbo inlet seal. That was addressed immediately with new o-rings and has not presented any weeping since the service.

Additionally, when the car was re-delivered from my Euro Delivery, there was slight damage on the drivers rocker panel, which to my best guess was caused by a port/boat/shipping worker hitting it with a boot that had metal lacehooks (my imagination figured that was the only way it happened). I sourced a brand new OEM part and worked with my detailer to have it matched to the car perfectly - I have the removed rocker panel still, years later, showing the very very minimal damage if you'd like to see it for proof; but I think that helps illustrate how anal I've been with the car.

I did have something touch the hood on a highway that came through the first ppf on the car; very very minor paint impact, and when re-doing the hood's ppf I did have the detailer/painter who matched the rocker do a, literally, dot of LMB on the impact spot - which has been under new ppf since. Though, due to me being cheap (I guess, relatively, given the rest of the spend..), I didn't do the full rear quarters in ppf initially and there is some pockmarking, now also under ppf, on the leading edge of the rear haunches - I did not want to do any touchup/paint in this area whatsoever, so it stayed. All the paint is original besides this rocker, which I have the original for if you want it, and as I said, a literal dot of touch up paint on the passenger side of the hood.

As you can probably tell, I'm a loving owner quite passionate about this car. It was a bucket list purchase when ordered, and I'm not really looking to get out of it, but could use the garage space a little later in the year.

The key 'new owner' I'd like to sell this one off to; someone who's not going to be a hooligan abusing the car, and will keep it in a garage for fair weather use. Why? Because, I want first right of refusal to buy her back if/when the next steward is ready to move on.

photos can be found on my insta, LeMansF80, or through my profile here on BP.

Thanks for your attention,

-RB

Just throwing some photos from my phone here.

I know this car is going to take a particular/discerning buyer; No issues with FaceTiming or getting shots for serious inquiries.

And a plug for the fantastic photography work of MachinesWithSouls who did a 3-generation blue M3 feature shot last fall including this car, linked below.

Machines With Souls - Feeling Blue feature

Thanks again

Thank you all for the kind words. It's not something I'm looking forward to selling, just floating it out into the world to see if someone else needs her.

We'll see if there's the right next caretaker here or not. Car will likely get posted on a couple forums over the next week, and potentially going to someone you both know on consignment.

Thank you, my pleasure having some dialog on this venture over the past few days. Not looking forward to potentially being without the fun car for the summer, but if the right buyer comes to the table, it is what it is!

Thank you, I tend to agree with your assessment on the car. I had a vision in my head before even walking into the dealership to try securing a '15 allocation. The car presented here is top to bottom the representation of that vision to a T; exactly what was living in my dreams now resides in my garage, and for that I consider myself very fortunate.

I'm not sure if the smoking inquiry is due to:
(a) you know me, LOL
(b) my insta/a photo I didn't intend to leak
(c) you questioning my sanity in possibly offloading the car.

Any option would be valid; but the right answer is, 'only the good stuff'.

Back to the top. Sitting very close with 2 different forum members right now, but no deal made as of yet. Some flexibility on the pricing still, but looking for the right next owner to be her caretaker.

Don't sleep on this lovingly owned 1 of 2 car (Even if I've never found the 'other' one, the sickfinga list tells me it does exist).

TTT. One buyer I was closest with was a young female on her way off to college. Her parents didn't want her taking her g-wagen (!) to school, so this was going to be her college car. Unfortunately (for my own finances, anyway..) I just couldn't send the car to that 'next owner' for caretaking. There's some sentimentality here, and I do desire to see the car treated properly in its next life.

Interested. What made you do the crank hub solution? Is it the bolt capture solution or the spline lock?

I intended to tune the car - but just never did. I had the CH done over a winter, when I take the car off of the road for 3-5 months every year. Once I started driving it in the spring again, I just didn't find myself wanting for more power, so never moved to the tune. It was just the beginning of covid lockdowns too when I picked the car up from having the work done; shops really weren't open for in-person visits and mods, and roads were empty. The more I drove the car on deserted roads, I just kept feeling really content with the power level. Didn't seem worth the gamble to have any risk if the car didn't yet feel 'slow' to me. Since I'd guess like summer of 2020, I haven't really driven the car much at all. It always feels special and fast to me now, again keeping me from thirsting for more power.

Did the VTT spline lock + the capturing bolt, priced at $800 in parts, ordered 11/15/2019.

FWIW, I can put any interested buyers in touch with the mechanic who did the CH install on my car. While it was in the air, DCT/Differential/Oil/Coolant were all flushed, as well as a preventative pad replacement on the CCBs at just about the same time. Porsche forum wisdom stated that a good idea to preserve the rotor life was to change pads before they got down to 50% thickness or so. I did these at close to if not more than 70% pad life remaining, again, largely as a preventative.

The mechanic who did the work on my car, at the time, was working out of his own garage for side-work. He's also the Sr. Master Tech at one of the local BMW dealerships - I can certainly put any buyer in touch. He's highly regarded in the region and has an instagram for his side-work projects I could share if needed. I've also got photos while the motor was opened up as he went through a full health checkup on the car for me.
