Mishimoto - Air-to-Water Intercooler - BMW F87 M2C & F8X M3/M4

BMW has a knack for maintaining its stake as the benchmark when it comes to performance luxury vehicles, with the F8X generation being no exception. The S55 that powers the 2015–2020 BMW F8X M3, M4 and M2 Competition is dripping with technology, which includes an air-to-water intercooler as a means of keeping cool. Where BMW’s intercooler design was enough to help bring this generation of mid-sized M’s to their peak, here at Mishimoto found some weaknesses that we felt obliged to address.

Mishimoto started with the end tanks. The Mishimoto Performance Air-to-Water Intercooler features full, cast aluminum end tanks, TIG-welded to our bar-and-plate core for maximum durability as you increase the boost in your Bimmer. Our end tanks also include internal air diverters on both the inlet and outlet to ensure an even flow of charged air through the core. When it comes to the core, bigger is better, and were able to expand the size of our core in all dimensions, resulting in a 29% increase in core volume while abstaining from any modifications when it comes to the installation. Our new core also features a unique single-pass internal fin layout for the coolant passage for optimal heat transfer from the charged air to the coolant.

With our improvements combined, saw the Mishimoto 2015–2020 BMW F8X M3 and M4 Performance Intercooler increase flow through the core by 16% and recorded a 12°F drop in intake air temperatures when tested with the Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger. Mishimoto also recorded an average increase of 11 whp and 8 wtq during our testing with peak gains of up to 31 whp and 10 wtq.

Mishimoto - Performance Air-to-Water Intercooler Power Pack - BMW F87 M2C & F8X M3/M4

An air-to-water intercooling system wouldn’t be complete without the heat exchanger. When it came to BMW’s design, it was a solid foundation, but still saw room to grow, literally. Our full aluminum design added 6” to the height of the core, equating in a 180% increase in external fin surface area and a 60% increase in core volume. With our heat exchanger in the S55’s system, recorded a 10°F drop in global intercooler coolant temperatures and an average gain of 11 whp and 8 wtq when the full Mishimoto 2015–2020 BMW F8X Performance Intercooler Power Pack was tested on our Stage 1 tuned M3. For added security, made sure to include our optional steel mesh stone guard with the Mishimoto Performance Heat exchanger to keep all the tubes and fins intact. Mishimoto also utilized a variable fin pitch on our heat exchanger’s core for optimal cooling on DCT-equipped vehicles.

Mishimoto - Charge Pipe Kit - BMW F87 M2C & F8X M3/M4

Keep the boost flowing through your BMW with the Mishimoto BMW M3, M4 & M2C Charge Pipe Kit. The air-to-water intercooler keeping IAT’s low is a system, and the stock charge pipes can be a weak link. Once the pressure is on, it’s not uncommon for the factory pipes to split at the plastic welds by the turbo or completely burst along the seam, leaving you with a frustrating boost leak.

The Mishimoto F8X M3/M4 Charge pipes are a durable, full aluminum construction, expertly TIG-welded for a secure channel for the S55’s boost. Our charge pipes are specifically designed to deliver optimal airflow with a more uniform shape from turbo to intercooler without sacrificing fitment.

Our charge pipe kit also includes a pair of matte black silicone couplers for a secure and stock styled connection to the air-to-water intercooler. The Mishimoto 2015+ BMW F8X M3/M4 Charge Pipes include the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty for a worry-free installation.

Mishimoto - Performance Heat Exchanger - BMW F87 M2C & F8X M3/M4

Improve the cooling capacity for your BMW M3, M4 or M2C with the Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger. Air-to-water intercooling is a means of more efficient heat transfer from the charged air, but it now requires an additional heat exchanger mounted to the front of the vehicle in order to dissipate the transferred heat. The S55 powering the F8X generation of M’s packs quite a punch thanks to the A2W system. While the BMW engineers laid the foundation for dissipating heat from the intercooling system, Mishimoto still saw some room to improve on their design.

Mishimoto - Oil Cooler - BMW F8X M3 & M4

Add some much needed durability and cooling power to your M3 or M4 with the Mishimoto 2015-2020 BMW M3/M4 Oil Cooler. True to form, the engineers at BMW designed the M3/M4’s oil cooler with an efficient use of space in mind. Suspended perpendicular from the rest of the cooling stack, this location utilizes the Bimmer’s aerodynamics in order to cool the oil, all while putting the light weight, tube-and-fin cooler in harms way of road hazards.

Here at Mishimoto made sure to beef up the oil cooler design for the F80/82 with our performance oil cooler. Mishimoto ditched the lightweight design for a full aluminum, TIG-welded bar-and-plate cooler for added strength and cooling. The bars and plates are a much more robust form of heat exchanger core construction intended for improved heat transfer and have the strength to shrug off potential road debris, keeping your oil temps down, and where it should be. We also added 10mm to the core’s thickness, equating in a 46% increase in core volume and increased the oil capacity by .4 qt.

Mishimoto - Baffled Oil Catch Can - BMW F8X M3 & M4

Give your 2015–2020 BMW M3/M4 the protection it deserves with the Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can Kit. The introduction of the S55 into the M3 and M4 in 2015 was the first time compact M’s saw turbos from the factory, but these engines brought along another long-standing tradition—blow-by.

The Mishimoto BMW M3/M4 catch can kit uses proven engineering from the patent pending Mishimoto 2-Port Compact Baffled Oil Catch Can, with its 50-micron bronze filter and internal baffle, to better separate the oil from the crankcase vapors. The engineers at Mishimoto designed a CNC-machined lid that features large inlet and outlet ports to match the inner dimension of the CCV hose. This baffled oil catch can defends your intercooler, intake system, and VANOS system from oil blow-by and helps maintain proper octane levels to reduce potential detonation.

The kit comes with two direct-fit hoses, which require no modification to the engine cover, and one direct-fit billet aluminum mounting bracket that is extremely easy to install and mounts the can in a serviceable location! Two aluminum, 3/4” barb fittings connect the hoses to the can. And, like every Mishimoto oil catch can, this baffled catch can kit comes with the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty!

Mishimoto catch cans are different from most air-oil-separator (AOS) systems on a few levels. First, the catch cans are not heated. This means that all of the blow-by is able to condense in the can, including low-octane oil vapors and contaminated fuel vapors. Most AOS systems also drain the blow-by back into the oil pan, while our catch cans trap the blow-by and keep it out of the engine permanently. If you’ve seen what we’ve seen in the bottom of our catch cans, you won’t want that draining back into your oil either.
