Are you guys keeping your F80/82?
With crazy grill design BMW is going to put on their new M3/M4, I think I'll keep my F80 for a while.
Are you guys keeping your current model M cars? Do you think they will retain a strong resale value? I really think front end designs for current M cars including are very classic and iconic. I have no idea why BMW would choose a path of revolution instead of evolution. Thoughts? |

People are always against change. After a while, people will get used to the new grille and the new face of BMW. Resale value of an M car is always different from like your normal 3/4 series, even like a X35i/X440i. If you look at the E90 generation, it is still holding value, in my area they are still 30k+ for an E92 and that's like a 6 year old car. Even a E46 still demands a pretty penny. I would assume the F8X generation is going to hold value just as well as the previous. There is always a market for M cars.

Does this mean oem manufacturers can do whatever they pleased? A prototype car means, you make something to showcase to the end consumer for feedbacks, I believe they have heard what people said about their prototype 4 series. This is what Porsche has been doing right for years especially recently, they continuously listening to the market and give them what they want, PDk in some cars, manual in others etc. Also, they don't jump in and reinvent the wheels. I guess time will tell. |

I waited till BMW showed the pics of the new M4,, and decided then, that I’d go ahead and order the current M4 2020 model. I agree to some point that people will get used to that look, but I’m not ready for it. I think the grill looks terrible looks like a Lexus or something, Plus I don’t want to be one of the first ones to have the new model there’s always growing pains to go along with it , I’d rather wait till they get past that.
My 2cents ! !

Keeping is one of those terms lol. I could keep it for 6 months, I could keep it for 20 years. For me, I'll keep it another 2 years I don't want one of the first year G8x

I bought my F80 with the intent of keeping it forever. I don’t like the G20 and the G80 looks like it’s gonna be even worse.
Truth be told, when F80 came out I hated it. I thought it was over styled. However, after some time and seeing it with the M performance parts, it looked great. So much so that I really love this design and I think it’s the best designed M3 since the original. The proportions are bang on. I’m so glad I bought mine when I did. Also the F80 will be the last M3 with a MT, a real handbrake and real gauges (analog). Yessss. |

I'm keeping it for two reasons:
1. If they keep those concept grills the car is butt ugly and nobody telling me I'm going to get used to it is going to change my mind. That's bullshit, I never thought the F80/82/83 was ugly and that I'd get used to it, I loved it right away. The concept M4 is a turd as is, nothing is changing that. It's about as ugly as they could have made it in the front along with the indistinguishable from the rear Lexus look. 2. The F80/82/83 are perhaps the most reliable M cars ever. For the first time in around 20 years of M ownership I'm not worried about Vanos, oil pumps, or rod bearings while I'm out in the wild enjoying my car. There's no way I'm dumping a perfectly awesome car just because something newer has come out, especially with unproven reliability. Dumping something that 99.9% of the world population would be happy to own just to get something "new" is the definition of stupidity. Basically nobody will be able to tell the differences between the new/old models anyway, just like nobody knows the difference between Xenon and LCI headlights on these cars except for the owners themselves (hell I didn't even know until around six months of ownership). It's all in the heads of the pretentious to think other wise. Love my car. |

i'll be keeping it unless i get another manual car. It can do it all and looks great. i think it will go down as one of the better looking M cars (maybe still behind the e46)

I'm keeping my 2015 F80 because it still has low miles, it's my favorite color, and I can't swing a brand-new anything at this point. Besides, these concept photos likely bear very little resemblance to the actual production model. I think everyone's getting bent out of shape over nothing.
Oh, and NickyC - I agree with your thoughts, but I think you were referring to LED headlights, not LCI.

Getting all the options and a manual is my biggest gripe with the G80 When My wife's friend saw my F80 for the first time she said; look at the those curves what a sexy car; your car has hips lol!!! |

I'll be keeping mine regardless - prospect of future purchases doesn't look good, but I'll leave the door open. We might have to whether a short period of time in BMW design where the cars aren't built for the masses, at least not those represented in the free and open internet.

Ehh as soon as everyone's cars start coming off warranty and once the g80 hits the streets and everyone gets used to the design people will move on. The vast majority of people on here lease their cars and once their leases are up they will grab a g80, just wait and see.

I'll be keeping my F80 indefinitely. I've learned over time that when I sell a car I want it back, no matter how much I thought I'd be okay without it. (Yes my wife and I are car collectors)

The F80 F82 platform will be legendary. S55 motor is a beast with it's tuning capabilities. Bolts on and E85 tune puts down 600hp. Turbo upgrade and tune putting down 800hp. The only real issue SOME experience is the hub crank which can be addressed with a hub crank upgrade. Keeping mine. My goal is to do the MaxPsi hub crank solution with Pure or Kratos turbo upgrade.
