Civic to 18 Comp thoughts.
Hi there, hopefully this will help somebody with a couple points if they're thinking about moving up in years a bit. Quick story for me, I had my 15 M4 for a few years and was looking forward to buying the new M4 this Spring. I'll save you the comments, but seeing what I've seen so far the new M4 is not for me. I loved my M4 so much, but I get a different car every 2-3 years so the old itch was back. My problem however, is that there's nothing between an M4 and a GT3 RS (which I cannot afford) which interests me in the slightest. It's a GT3 RS, M4, or nothing so I was stuck. I was planning on keeping my 15 but a really nice deal popped up on an almost fully loaded 18 Comp about 3 miles from my house recently so I hopped on it. I *think* the car has all options besides extended leather and CCBs but don't quote me on that.
Anyway, I purchased it stock but the dealership was nice enough to allow me to switch my HRE flows and Nexon steering wheel over to the new car. Within ten days I've added tint, YMB front markers, painted the calipers Porsche mint green with the Brembo stamp, ceramic coated the calipers/wheels, blue start button, KW HAS kit (very disappointed in that), and a Vorsteiner diffuser. I know some people might be wondering why I didn't keep the stock 20s, but they had some pretty gnarly rash here and there and quite frankly I've always hated those wheels. Both from a stylistic standpoint and the fact it must take a week to clean them. I also have brand new tires on my old HRE wheels which I had just purchased within the past 3 months so the decision to keep them was pretty easy. A couple impressions: 1. Going from Civic to Comp ain't worth it if it's really bugging you. There is no noticeable bump in power, and I liked the way my Civic rode on the KW V3s a lot better than on the EDC comp suspension with the KW HAS kit. I really screwed up with the HAS kit, I should have done my research beforehand because they do not allow you to lower the car to a point of getting a nice tuck on the wheels. I have the car as low as it will go on them, and I can still see a gap in the rear arches which really, really pisses me off. Money wasn't an object, but I thought the comp pack suspension would be as good as the KWs so I didn't go with the full coilover setup. The full coilovers felt just a ton better than the comp suspension with HAS, I might run it for a few months and see if I wind up liking it more otherwise I'll be switching to full coils in the spring. 2. The ///M Performance exhaust is really nice, and the burbles are great fun in Sport +. I was lucky that mine came with the titanium/carbon tips too, so I have no desire to modify the exhaust at all. With the valves unplugged (open at all times), the thing just rips in Sport +. If I get tired of the burbles I go efficient mode which is great. So, after having the car for a couple weeks would I have done it again? Probably not. Between trade in and new car price, it was about a $17k difference. I think I even liked my old Silverstone interior more than my new all black interior, Silverstone just looked much nicer to me. Sure the IKONs are nice, and the performance exhaust is nice, but the comp pack is just too similar to the Civic to make the switch again in my opinion. If you're on the fence, just keep your 15/16 and get KW V3s along with maybe a burble tune for some spice. However, the bottom line is that I still have the car I love and it's a bit newer! I plan on having this one for another 2-3 years with hopes the new M4 will get a style refresh. That car needs a TON of work however, so I'll probably wind up skipping the entire generation altogether. Hope this helps somebody, now for some pics! |

Looks pristine and beautiful. Congrats on the purchase! I'm passing on the entire G8x gen too, so you're not alone. And hanging on to my 17' Comp

That's funny. I am literally in the same predicament. Only thing I'd give up my f80 would be is a P car. GT3 or bust. Than I get back down from the clouds. I really miss the noise and drama of NA engine. Understand exactly how you feel brother.
Love the green brake calipers!!! |

Beautiful YMB
Amazing that it only cost you $17k to go from a '15 M3 civic to an '18 loaded M3 comp. Does that include sales tax? Agree that its not worth the change cost but most can't learn through other's experiences and will feel like they are "missing out" if they don't make the change. Plus 1 on silverstone seats. My last F80 had silverstone seats and I really liked them. Sounds like you'll get the ride/drop sorted and then be very happy with car. I, too, think I'm going to pass on G80, but I have high hopes for G87. Congrats! |

This was covered extensively when the Comp came out: don't get it if you plan to mod
Thanks for the long write up though. Hope it improves for you! Love the wheels!

The only thing Civic about these cars is the rear brake calipers on the new model. 😂 |

Why the hell are they called Civic's? I missed the whole influx of it when I was away on another platform. kinda hard to call my fully loaded '15 a civic

Tons of famous reviewers make it sound like the competition package is something completely game changer in terms of driving experience when it came out in 2016. I'm happy with my base (well every option except comp) f82. |

It's 2020 so I am offended that you call my non-comp M3 a civic. You are now cancelled.

Very tastefully done.
I was in the same boat with my 2019 Civic. It's nearing 100,000 miles. This is the first time that I haven't lusted after seeing the newer M car.
