That goes for most buyers. There was a time when I surveyed every F8X driver I came into contact with via consensual encounter or via traffic stop. None were on Bimmerpost or car forums in general. To this day I still chuckle about it. Last week I rolled up on a white M4CS while cruising my patrol beat. The conversation went like this…..

Me: "Nice M4 dude!"

M4CS driver: "Thank you! It's a CS. Do you know what that is?"

Me: "Yep! I just sold my M4 two months ago. I know exactly what it is. Are you on Bimmerpost?"

M4CS driver: "No, what's that?!?"

Me: "It's a BMW-centric car forum. Check it out."

Then he went on to ask me what I'm replacing the M4 with and we talked Porsches for a short time until the light turned green and he made a left turn while I proceeded forward.

I once arrested a guy in an M4 doing donuts in the Puente Hills Mall parking lot (…last year during COVID). I was sure he was on Bimmerpost. Nope!

We kind of are.

It surprises me even more when I see modded M's and the drivers aren't on forums.

I generally agree with you Sedan_Clan , and try not to make inferences about all bimmer drivers based on what I read here.

the overwhelmingly negative stuff about G8x that I read on virtually every media outlet, not just bpost, is what makes me think that the general buying public actually really does hate the design.

But then I also agree that ultimately sales figures will define BMW's future response.

All of which are reasonable presumptions to make. The internet is ripe with vitriol, but the cars are selling at an astounding pace, so we lean towards whichever confirms the bias. If the sales numbers are on par with, or better than, the last car (…however one may feel about how BMW comes up with the numbers due to past issues with reporting), it will only strengthen BMW's resolve……….especially if the wildly designed new X3/4 M and 2 Series cars sell well.

I’m in NYC and LI so seeing exotic cars is nothing special.
I have seen only 2 G8x cars and maybe a handful of new 4series coupes.
None have made appearances at Cars & Coffee.

Either ppl are embarrassed to drive them in public or they are not selling.

The guys looking for G8X's in NY have hard times finding cars. They aren't embarrassed to drive them. That sounds like a silly notion. There's just not enough around to make them a regular sight……yet!

Apparently it can do four wheel burnouts as well, but its gonna be hard for them to recreate the success of the current model, having no sound does not resonate with most muscle car buyers.

Loud V8 is literally what makes it a muscle car.

There so little muscle about batteries it makes me think of the Duracell bunny.

If ppl ever watched movie- Demolition Man - one of the best movies in predicting the future.

They had a classic muscle car (believe it was Chevy Chevelle SS) in a museum as a reminder of ICE cars.

Definitely sad times not to hear and feel the rumble of a motor.

I have no issues seeing C8 Vettes, F8 Tributos, GT2RS, 992 Turbo but somehow the G8x is more rare than all of these lol.

All of which have been available longer than 2-3 months. Heck, the C8 Vette was revealed the summer of 2019; the 992 has been around since 2019 as well. The 991 is, what, 7 years old?!?! Give it time. When I bought my first F8X in late 2014-ish, I didn't see another one on the road for months.

It's been a long time coming, but I was hoping NA would hold out from all this EU emission bullshit but no, here we are calling a dildo for millennials an American muscle car.

If I was to get an electric, I'd probably get the Audi GT or Taycan because they look great and ain't pretending to be something they're not. At least I doesn't seem to me like they are.

I've started seeing a lot of iX3 which I really enjoy.
Works great and looks great, seen a few colors but blue with silver accent and rims is my favorite for it so far.

Some new camo electrics been around too, looks weird cause the headlights are going across the whole hood of the car like the rear lights of audi. Some Chinese cars called Xpeng or something.
Big X logo on it.

I still have yet to see another G8x on the road besides mine, but I do follow the market around here and the cars are selling. Whether to local buyers or folks out of town I don’t know, but pace is picking up. When the cars first landed some sat on the lot for a month or longer, but now all appear to be moving within days. It’s difficult to tell just what is actually happening as everything is selling now, they can’t keep any desirable new cars in stock at the BMW places I speak with.

The sales success of the vehicles likely won’t be known for a couple of years until the market/chips stabilize AND we see about the LCI updates on the G82. If the grills suddenly shrink in a few years, there’s the answer.

I just looked at inventory nationwide for G8x and its extremely limited so most likely supply issues. Hard to tell the true demand for these cars until supply goes back to normal levels.

I mean, doesn't the ratio make sense in the form that a manual usually got 6 gears while autos got 7-10 now?

For being hard to acquire, I actually see C8’s regularly.

I actually like the idea of an electric pickup. Use it around town, run errands, the occasional Home Depot run. Then keep my “old” petrol cars for the fun drives. I’m just not interested until solid state batteries are a reality. They will change the electric car game.
