1200 mile ED service not free anymore?

Is it true that 1200 mile service in Europe will not be reimbursed anymore?

Probably not a big deal, but when did this come into effect?

Correct, but then you can go to your local US dealership that organized the ED for you, show the receipt and ask for a reimbursement through BMW NA. Multiple folks on the forums confirmed this worked.

I'm wondering if this still applies or BMW NA has cancelled this program?

I believe the reimbursement process still applies.

There was a letter in the ED pickup packet that they are not required to pay for the 1200 mile service, but will as a goodwill gesture. BMW NA will reimburse you for the service, provided the price is approximate to what they would pay for it in the US - something to that effect is written in the letter.

I tried to get it done, but the dealer didn't have the new diff oil in stock so they couldn't even do the service.

+1 There was a letter in the ED pickup saying exactly that.

Do all the service centers have the training/ability to do this M-car service around Europe or only selected or major BMW centers can perform this? Also, it looks like it needs to be scheduled a few days in advance so they can obtain the appropriate oil?

We are getting ours done in Bonn. Our 1200 miles will be completed in the area of Nürburg (how convenient, i know). There is a dealer closer to Nürburg, but I don't think they have the capabilities.

This is exactly what my dealer told me to do. It is also mentioned in the BMW Canada ED brochure.
