As rumored. Also keep in mind that in the past BMW weight reduction efforts just mean less weight gain than if they invested more and did more design and engineering to accomplish it.

So you can't hear the difference between I6 and V6.

So a RB26DETT, 2JZ or S54 sound like a VR38DETT, VQ35HR/37VHR or an V6 TI? I don't think so.

No, but because I'm not sure the F80 sounds like an M3 E46 or a 335i E92. Maybe the turbo setup makes it sound differently, you know, three turbos.

It's a tuned N55 with 2 or more turbos, why will it sound like a V6? It doesn't make sense!
Does a 335i sound like a V6? With or without a custom exhaust? No

Because it is more likely not to be a tuned N55, but something very different.

Nissan Gtr typical V6 engine, very typical V6 sound, here is link too. Same like sound got V6 Maserati engine, V6 NA Nissan 370Z , Vauxhal Vectra V6, Camry V6.

Bmw 1M typical L6 engine, you can hear typical L6 engine higher tone on high revs, inline six screams on higher revs more than V6. (hope all understand what I mean)

Starts 15s

Request for BMW TV, make video were exhaust tune guys tells which affects the exhaust sound.

The S55 will be based on the N55 ("tuned" wasn't perhaps adequate). I don't know what you mean...or know?

I highly doubt BMW will put a V6 on any car they make, because they have never made a V6 and it will cost them more to start from scratch with a V6 than "tune" an existing engine.

Why, if some of us actually still believe that BMW would go so far as to place a decoy I6 engine in the engine bay of test cars to conceal this theoretical V6 from prying eyes, do those folks then turn around and assume that the engine note would be left unmodified and undisguised?

If you honestly think BMW is playing tricks on us, then analyzing the test car's engine sound is no more reliable than analyzing its engine's appearance.

For me, the M3/M4 on these videos sound identical to a 335i (N54 or N55 on a dyno for example
), I don't know what you hear

But I like the idea of a V6 on the new M3/M4 (S65 with two chopped cylinders).

And seriously, L4 or L6 or V6 or W24, I don't care, I know the car will be a beast with a wonderful chassis.

Simply because there is an possibility that BMW could test two different engines in the F80 testmules ... there are strange rumor in german forums that they are doing so. It could be the case that the shown I6 is simply the all new B58 engine.

Another really simple question ... could someone explain me please, how this perfect I6 engine pics could "leak" without knowledge from bmw or minimum of the driver of the car ... and how much righthand driven F80M3 mules exist ... one? Do you really think this (easy to find out who he was) driver would be even longer employed by bmw, if that was an really leaked pic?

There is absolutely no reason to test a non-M engine in an M car. It makes no sense at all. But if you do believe they would do that for some reason, then that could just as easily mean that this V6 you think you are hearing could be a future generation series engine as well.

Well maybe he did get fired.

Or, more likely, the picture was simply taken by a clever spy while the test crew was in the middle of inspecting something under the hood but had stepped away for a moment. And BMW probably would not particularly care since, assuming the engine is an I6 as most everyone is convinced of by now, it is no big secret to keep anyway.
