Sport Cup 2 vs R888R?
Hey guys I'm looking for knowledge between Cup2 and R888R. My main concern is straight line traction in 2-3 gear. Currently I'm running a Cup2 285/35R19 on the 437m. I've had them for about 3 years (15k miles) and they're finally getting a little low. Great tire, but it doesn't hook well until the top of 3rd. I'm only pleasure cruising, no track time, so tire temps are usually only about 15-20F over ambient.
I'm looking at 295/35R19 Cup2 or a 285/35R19 R888R. I know under normal operating temps the Toyo's will grip better, have more road noise, and wear faster. I'm expecting probably about 8k lifespan? My main concern is going into winter. Our winter temps here are pretty mild with highs of 58-68F, no snow, rarely gets below freezing at night. Will the Toyo's have less grip if tire temp is 60-70F compared to the Cup2 at those temps? I don't want to be in a position where I have less traction on the rear for the next 5 months. thanks |

I went with the R888R. 285/35r19 on the stock 437M. Its still hot, so tire temps are usually 110-120f. But now I have no grip issues on the rear in a straight line. I'm curious to see how long they last. They do give a very slight humming noise at highway speeds, but they are way quieter than I thought they would be. 1st and 2nd completely hook up now.
