Carbon Fiber Roof Clearcoat lift or Fade? Can it be paint corrected?

Is this the clearcoat lifting or just a little faded (look at where the white glare meets the seem of the black plastic trim).

Can this be paint corrected or is the start of the dreaded clear coat peel?

I bought the car last year and did a 3 step correction and ceramic coating. It has always been garage-kept under my ownership, but obviously not sure about the PO.

Thats def peeling/fading away. I have the carbon roof and really hate that I have to think about this. I would 100% trade it in if it happens.

i'm not going to trade it in. The car is in great shape. The picture i took shows a ton of "glare" in that area. It's not actually white. It's just barely cloudy and it's at the seem.

I got quoted $900 by a shop that has done this a million times if i do need to eventually do this. To be honest— it's not bad yet, so not worth spending the money yet.

I'm just trying to see if there is a way to mitigate this from getting worse.

Seems like the only way is avoiding UV sunlight but that's not really a realistic option for many of us. Also maybe reduce the amount of polishing on the roof to keep that clear thick, even if it has some clear coat blemishes maybe? I don't want to polish any of that clear now seeing that more people are having clear coat CF issues as the CF roof ages.

That looks like the start of clear cost failure but it's not that big of a deal. People just get it sanded down and recleared and then throw some PPF on it and it's good as new. You just gotta find a shop that's willing to work with carbon fiber because I've heard there's many that are too scared to do so

I'm in South Florida where this seems like it's most common.

I know a shop willing to do it, but the picture and spot looks SO much worse than it really is. considering how i don't DD this car and it sits in a garage, i'd love to see if there something i can do (possible extra ceramic coat layer on that spot) to make sure it doesn't get worse for the next few years.

I had the paint correction done once and it was ceramic coated after.

If you don't want it to get worse PPF is probably what you're looking for, I don't think ceramic coating will help that much. However I feel like you can easily DIY fix it or make it look significantly better. Just sand that spot a bit and get a can of UV resistant clear coat and put a couple coats on that small area. Would probably end up looking perfect from 3+ feet away and not even noticeable when standing up close if you didn't know about it. And worst case if it doesn't work then you just have that shop fix it right and clear will be stronger than whatever cheap crap BMW used from the factory

This can be fixed. It was an issue on the E9X and it appears to be even worse on the F8X. The clearcoat just doesn't seem to do well in places where you have high outdoor temperatures.

You can take it to a specialist who can fix this for you and remove the shitty clearcoat and give you 2-3 layers of new epoxy so it will never happen again. Check out the video below.

Do I want a carbon roof, yes, but it absolutely looks amazing in Tanz so I can't complain. Performance loss aside with having a sunroof, I go to a track maybe once or twice a year.

I'm kinda in the same boat, I like the idea of the carbon roof but I use my sunroof everytime I drive. I leave it exposed all the time to let in more natual light, leave it tilted open if I park outside, and completely open it sometimes at night.

I think a black roof does make the car look more aggressive, so I did wrap my roof in black. Definetely prefer it over a white roof.
