MHD WiFi Adapter Compatible With Bootmod3!

Haven't seen anything regarding this on Bimmerpost so far, hence this post.

So made an astonishing discovery today. I realized the black MHD WiFi adapter works with Bootmod3. I started questioning this after Kies Motorsport recently announced their WiFi adapter saying it works with BM3, so I figured why not try it with the MHD adapter since they look identical. That's when my test began.

Since the MHD adapter connects to your phone via WiFi, you will not be able to download the maps on the fly on the BM3 mobile app. Press flash, click on download now and flash later. Once the map is downloaded, then connect your phone to the MHD adapter via WiFi. If you go back on the BM3 app, it will now say vehicle is connected.

I personally tested this today by flashing it to my stage 2 OTS map and back to the custom tune E85 map. It works just as well as having it plugged into the car with the ENET cable. Flash times are nearly identical. Both take a few minutes to flash to a whole new map. Once it gets to 3% or so, it will say it cannot download the map from the BM3 cloud. Do not be alarmed, it will go away within a few seconds and your flash will resume as intended.

Gone are the days of needing the $150 BM3 WiFi module and unnecessary wires for us Bootmod3 people. Pick up the MHD adapter for $70 and you're set.

Been known for a long time..... many have done it. I was looking for a 2nd hand one for awhile bt lost interest since I dont flash that much and only really need it for the active gauge function

As for the $150 wifi module, many just make their own for like $65 or buy the $90 generic DIY units people sell

This is seriously good news. I’ve also just gone to MHD for a particular map, but missing some of the power of the BM3 Stage 1 and looking to switch back temporarily. Wasn’t keen on the idea of lugging my laptop around for BM3 as that’s my usual method of flashing.

Quick question though, if I’m switching between MHD and BM3, do I switch back to the stock map and then the map I want, or just go directly to the map I want on the other platform? For example, running the MHD CS map > stock > BM3, or skip the stock option altogether?

Flash to stock in between.

now that you can connect the phone directly to the OBD, the wifi module is not needed.

I know it saves you the hassle of using the cable, but I don't think it's worth it for the price whether its $150 or $70

If you manually configure the wireless connection settings (using details printed on the back of the MHD device), your phone will recognize it as a limited connectivity device. This will trigger the phone to use cell data for connectivity while keeping the WiFi connection pointed to the MHD adapter.

With this setup, you can stay connected to the internet/BM3 cloud to download maps, etc., while also maintaining connectivity to the OBD2 data.

Lately whenever I used the Black MHD wifi OBD2 connector I have to reset the DME by disconnecting the battery before Bootmod3 will talk to the DME again via a cable, super annoying... .

Personally I'd wouldn't trust the MHD wifi for flashing, even just using it for logging it drops off after a few minutes....

The other day I tried flashing using the MHD module and mid flash around 50-60% it stopped working and my car wouldn't start. I got stuck until I had to get the ENET cable to connect directly and reflash. Does anyone know why it doesn't work?

Tried giving this a try with my MHD Wireless Adapter a few minutes ago and it simply would not work. I'm assuming because it's an MHD Product, BM3 detects it and will not allow it to connect. Does the MHD Wireless Adapter with BM3 still work for anyone?

Works just fine for me. Using the large black F/G series adapter.

I used the black adapter since that is the only one compatible with the F Series platform from MHD. Any idea as to why it may not work? Also the Adapter works fine, I've used it previously with my computer when I had had some remote stuff done.

Anybody know how to do what TideMD mentions with the new updated adapter? There is no printing on them

Mine is setup the same way he references his and I use the new red device for BM3. I can't recall exactly how it was done but I know it was from a youtube vid.
