The car's pre-repair pictures can be found here: https://dukemart.com/auctions/xw6gxh6qsx1dsp0w/

I attached some current pics under this post.

The car does not have any structural or mechanical damage reported on carfax

Here comes to my questions:

1. What would be a fair price for this car?
2. What should I be aware of when buying a salvage GTR like this?
3. Will an experienced mechanic be able to identify all issues of a salvage car?

Thanks in advance for your input.
wrong neighborhood man lol jk.. stay away from salvage titles. especially a GTR
I am trying to stay away but price is attractive. I will have a local gtr tech do a thorogh insection if i decide to buy
you can't put a price on a headache and constantly making stops at the mechanic..i made a mistake similar like that with an x5. never again

Buy salvage if you wanna track it.

Otherwise I'd LOW ball it and see if it sticks.

Like a previous poster wrote, you don't wanna be the guy trying to sell it later with no bites...

My personal opinion would be about 40% lower than a comparably spec'd nice nice car.

Even then, you gotta realize your audience to later sell this to shrinks even further as time goes on and mileage accumulates.

Make sure it's been fixed right & be comfortable with being able to sit on it for quite awhile when trying to sell it later. If you're good with those two things, then maybe it's the car for you...

yes, but keep in mind they don't conduct a full blow engine apart inspection. I would fix a missfire, 3 days later same shit again. then coolant leaking that just couldn't get fixed.. it was a nightmare. my dashboard was like xmas lights. I donated the car to car4kids..

Gen 1 by chance? My friend and I both had one, pre-LCI. Worst car we've both ever owned haha.

Same here! I traded mine on a Subaru WRX. When the dealer offered 8k for it I almost couldn't believe it. My hand was shaking to sign the paperwork before they decided to revise their offer on that shit box

I made the salvage mistake on an early year E46 M3. Bought from a private seller on craigslist for $11k which seemed like a good deal since clean ones were going 16-18k at the time.

It was the only car I've had that I was uncomfortable to drive. I never knew if it was going to start again when I came out of the grocery store or wherever I went. Had to bring to the shop for little things countless times, some bad wiring that was hard to see, etc.

In the end I ended up spending more than the 16k and should have just bought a better example of the car...

I'm sure you can occasionally find a gem, but in general it doesn't seem worth the potential headache to me.

Also like others have mentioned it's a total PITA to sell or if you go to trade it in you're going to get ridiculously low-balled.

If clean titles aren't important to you, there's a nice murdered out M3CS for sale too:
