ATS 5100 installed - first impressions

Hey all, just coming off a huge win for myself when I successfully installed downpipes, charge pipes, OCC, and some spark plugs the other week. So I figured mmm.... what about some coilovers

So I have been looking at KW V3's (seeming I currently have a KW HAS kit installed from the previous owner) I'm not usually about adding modifications more for aesthetics rather than performance so I wanted to swap the kit for a true coilover. Another option were Ohlins R&T. After finding out what a local shop had, I ended up settling on a beautiful set of AST 5100 with their camber plates, and drop links. The shop had them sitting in their showroom so I got them for a pretty decent price.

As with my other post this in no way is a DIY write up just something I wanted to share with the community.

So far my first impressions are, well to put it lightly f***ing amazing! The damping is brilliant, the balance now the car exhibits is stellar. Money well spent on this kit! The rear is also a true coilover which I feel the biggest difference. I have not adjusted to the final height or had an alignment yet just waiting for everything to settle. The kit is super well built and I'm glad I went this route.

Any idea what the spring rates are on these? How do they compare to the onlins? I'm also in the market for a set of coilovers and was looking at 3DM road sport kit based off of the road and track kit. https://3dmmotorsport.com/collection...suspension-kit

Your setup sounds intriguing though as well

I like the idea of the full rear coilover instead of having a shock and a spring. For me it seems more legit but I am a suspension noob. Honestly I don't know the spring rates or how they compare to any other coilovers for this platform. However they're way better than the KW HAS kit and stock edc dampers.

Is the knob to adjust rebound for the rear shocks on the bottom, or do you have to remove the wheel liner to access it on top?

It's on the rear! 1 way adjustable for me that's more than enough! Less things to mess with imo!

Congrats on the new ASTs. Proper suspension setup will completely transform the car.

Nice, man!

Had the 4100's back in the day on my e36 M3 and they were amazing. Can't even imagine the improvement on the 5100's!

These are amazing so far, I'll be posting a full review probably in a month or so. But they're great so far. Just adjusted to my preferred ride height. Now waiting for an alignment.
