How's your fuel economy?

Would you please post your average mpg so far? In real-world, I am hoping new M3/4 can hit 19-20mpg?

Fuel Economy for the first 300 miles

I averaged, on my daily driving this week, and also a trip from Ventura to EAS and Back (94 miles each way), and I averaged 25.4 MPG.

Also the car sat around doing some testing and some shenanigans and Some sporty driving. I got 340 miles on a full tank. 91 octane.

That's awesome. 340 total on a tank? Really nice. How much does she take to fill up, 14?

74 miles - 12.8mpg (having fun under 5,500RPM)

But then I decided to try and shift as the car prompted me to do (at about 1,700RPM) and the efficiency gauge was showing over 40 most of the time. I'll try to dedicate a couple of days to doing that, just to see the highest number I can accomplish.

I have only 100 miles on mine, but I am at 12.8. And with the manual, if I shift when the car wants me to shift (at about 1,700RPM), then the gauge shows over 40mpg. It wants me to drive in 5th at 30mph and 6th at 40.

That's a lot of rowing just to get to 40 mph!

Not to go too off track, but I thought I read somewhere that skipping gears is not good for the synchros or something like that. I do notice a slight bump in mpg in my e93 driving in the highest gear for the speed.

Back to mpg, I'm thoroughly impressed with these numbers. It's similar to what I was getting in my previous 335xi, but with 125+ hp/tq.

What I didn't expect is when I tried out efficiency mode, I was getting 40mpg on the highway! Mind you that's being very careful with throttle, but still, I'm impressed.
The mileage is highly dependent on the revs you use. Taking it easy and short shifting you can get impressive numbers, but get into the throttle a lot and it's no better than the S65.

Agree, I have never broken a tranny and I have total disregard for any shifting "procedures" other than redline and by ear/feel. My ED combined mpg was 24 mpg but it means nothing for my commute so I'll wait until I get my car back in Seattle and my reference commute to comment on mpg.

With about 350 miles or so on mine I am at about 12.4 average with mixed driving but I live in a more rural area where I can easily average 100 everywhere I go and on the highway I have been doing about 115 average. But much better then my old E92 M and better then about any other car I have owned in a long time with the exception of my P-Cars, they do surprisingly well on gas, as do Corvettes on the highway.

This seems unreasonably dangerous on public roads. Can you at least attempt to not make all M owners look like complete jackasses?

A) I said I CAN not that I do, but on the highway it is normal for me to be doing 100 and B) Most M owners make themselves look like jackasses all on their own, they don't need my help. C) Most people don't know if it is an M or a 3 series, 4, 5 etc. People in general see BMW and just think Jackass automatically. I don't think it has anything to do with the speed in which one travels since cars of all makes are doing this, it has more to do with their greater than thou attitudes. This is the reason I like the Forums, most of the Enthusiasts on the Forums are not Jackasses, it is the rest of the people who buy the M or the AMG or whatever brand it may be for appearance sake and not because they are an enthusiast.

If I do those speeds I am normally maintaining with what others are doing. We have lots of very long, straight and empty roads around here. You can easily drive through a radar trap on the highway doing 90 and the cop won't even blink at you. The speed limits are mostly 70-75 on the highway.

Just did a 250 mile trip (San Antonio to N. Austin) and got it as high as 28mpg driving at around 80mph. And then driving back at about 90-92mph (highway 130 has an 85mph speed limit), Combined at the end of the trip was 25.2mpg.

And this is with a manual.
