Disappointed on Eventuri Intake
Recently I swapped my F80 M3 for an F80 M3 CS. I had the IPE exhaust and springs transferred to the M3 CS. And a long cherished wish was to mount another Eventuri intake on my M3. That has now happened with the M3 CS, but to be honest I find the result very disappointing.
Only at low revs you hear the turbo's coils, but at higher revs or when releasing the throttle you hardly hear a sound. Judging from the YouTube movies and the posts on the forum I expected a lot more of it. Of course it could be that the IPE exhaust exceeds the sound of the intakes, but even with the valves closed I hear almost nothing. It is the V1 version of Eventuri with open intakes. |

The "turbo's coils"? Do you mean the "spooling" sound from both turbos?

Did you have the Eventuri V1 on your M3 and moved it to the M3 CS, or had stock airboxes before on the M3?
Wondering if the CS burbling/valving is making the spool sound hard to hear...

I have the V1 and yes, it’s more pronounced at lower speeds on mine as well. The noise it makes isn’t earth shattering and it’s more cosmetic than anything in my opinion. I will say the sound improved when I installed PS2’s, but still isn’t anything overly special to me.

Agreed. Front mount intakes on these cars are sick.

It does seem that most of the good spool sounding videos are either of front-mount intake drive-bys, or vids taken externally with microphones near the hood. This is where turbo spool sound is most apparent. Inside the cabin or behind the car all you hear is exhaust, because low sounds easily override high sounds. I watched a lot of vids before picking my intake and exhaust. The best spool sound vids have stock exhaust, no DPs and no burbles, with a front mount intake and blitz steel filters (which can have problems). It's hard to find the good balance. I have a base M3. Got BMC drop-ins and charcoal delete, and got a little sound from 2-3.5K RPM with windows down, but exhaust valves open at 4K and the spool gets overrun. Put on hi-flow cats and a full AA Sig exhaust, can't hear spool any more. Added a MST under hood intake, got some spool back. Got a tune with burbles, can hardly hear spool. FYI all that is from inside the cabin, in the driving seat with windows down. Since my tune has loads of power now I mostly drive in Efficient for the easy throttle and dynamic valving that lets me hear the MST intake best. Sport and Plus are now for racing, or being show-off loud (I know, I'm still a 5yo). Enjoy, don't sweat it. You own a CS! And it has the last good looking grill!!!

I dont get it. After catless downpipes my car sounds like a diesel truck spooling with just moderate throttle. I used to have injens and actually went BACK TO STOCK with BMC drop ins and its just as loud if not louder.
Moral of the story is get catless dps = turbos get loud.

Besides the downpipes do you have stock exhaust? I heard a similar change when I installed my hi-flow catted DPs for the 1 week before the cat-back exhaust kit went on...

I have the burbles on the M3 CS and of course the IPE exhaust makes a lot of noise which drowns out a lot. What is indicated here before, it is actually an incredibly expensive cosmetic mod instead of a performance mod.
To catless downpipes goes too far for me, with the IPE exhaust it is much too loud haha! Here a video of a trackday from last week at the circuit in Zandvoort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SbRJIx8MN4&t=9s |

I was speaking for myself. My misunderstanding. I thought u were responding to my comment and my thought now is that if I were to do it all over again, I would’ve stuck with the OEM intake and put the $$$ towards race gas or meth. Not going to argue tho, they do look mean in the front grill assembly...I see a lot of them in the rear view.

Your car sounds and looks awesome in the vid. I doubt your spool sound will overcome that IPE exhaust, but I bet a pair of front-mount intakes would sound wicked on your (track) car. I think front-mount sounds soooooo good but in my area I get rain/snow and I daily drive so I need under-hood. MST works well for my needs.
