Downpipe+ Midpipe Suggestions!!!

Hey guys I've recently picked up my f82 M4 and I am already wanting to get her tuned and make the car sound amazing.

I came across a lot of different types of downpipe and midpipe configurations and im not sure what I want yet.

These are two setups that interest me (I want to keep the rasp minimal even though its catless on the setup and i love the sound of the EL midpipe)(eventually ill throw an axle back but for now im keeping the stock rear)

-VRSF/AA Catless DP + AA EL midpipe (res or non-res)

-Arm resonated DP + AA EL midpipe (non-res)

Any suggestions or comments to help me decide would be awesome.

Thanks Guys!!!

I’ve had various exhaust setups paired with ARM Resonated Downpipes. I thought equal length midpipe was what I wanted until I had it. I had a low rpm rasp, as well as some others around 2k rpm’s that was unbearable. Switched to single midpipe and haven’t looked back.

The single midpipe is the better option if you go with catless downpipes.

In my opinion, catted downpipes + equal is the best sounding option

Hey Mike,

From what I understand the single midpipe is still raspy and had a deeper tone than the equal length.

Any reason u recommend it over the el?

the single midpipe is not raspy, it's the cleanest-sounding setup.

I have the VSRF down pipes and AA single mid-pipe. I agree the raspyness is far less noticeable and provides a much deeper noted sound.

THis is true! The resonated might be an even better option for those not wanting to sacrifice any hp loss or heat retention.

Does MAD offer a resonated single mid pipe for the F80? I see one for the G8x on your site. Just curious. I was considering pairing the catted downpipe with the resonated single midpipe.

It’s in the works but not yet available.

I enjoy the sound my factory downpipes paired with the single mid and mpe muffler makes. Throaty and gets wild at high rpm.

Downpipes + the single midpipe are an excellent combination.

I'd do catted to avoid high RPM rasp.

Catted works great but it does reduce volume slightly. Most people will probably prefer it with free flowing exhaust systems as they tend to be pretty loud to begin with.

Mpe Muffler guys will definitely want to add resonators and or high flow cats as they tend to be fairly raspy otherwise.

Are there any catted DP options that don't throw a CEL beside the stockers? I'd like to increase the sound a tad, currently have AA single midpipe with a CS muffler. Not looking to do a full tune just to clear the lights. Thanks.

AA has their new(ish) GESI catted DP’s.
Those are the only ones that won’t throw CEL, AFAIK, since they have 400 cell cats.

Best bargain would be a 200 cell with a small o2 spacer other wise you will have to put down some cash for the gesi cats.

........sorry for the delay, this was sitting in my draft folder:
I initially had ARM resonated dp's paired with AA EL resonated. Clean sound, but a slight drone around 2k rpms. I recently switched to MAD dp's and the additional brace for the downpipes has greatly reduced the drone around 2k rpms.

Nice!! Glad to hear that!

Do you have sound clips of both setups?

Originally, I installed ARM resonated DP's and kept the stock midpipes with the cats and had no weird smell, but sound suffered with a bit of rasp. Then I decided to add ARM resonated midpipe, no crazy weed whacker sound nor resonance in cabin, big improvement in sound but the smell... I have a 200 cell HJS HFC laying around from a previous project and I will be using it to replace the resonator. Should sound basically the same but without the smell.
I wish someone would make a HFC midpipe vs the DP's, it's enough to kill the smell and easier to install.
