Bootmod3 causing wastegate flutter
I'm a bit mystified by this. And the dealer can't help because their system was updated that it will detect an unlocked DME. The dealer themselves do not care that I run bootmod3 and said 2 others have the issue, and one of their own techs.
Basically hitting full boost at full throttle between 2500 and 3500 rpm results in a very audible oscillating boost flutter air rushing noise whatever its called. It's extremely easy to replicate. Floor it in third, hit full boost, grab 4th, happens everytime. It will not do it below WOT and full boost. I'm running stage 1 93 octane v9.1. When it was hot outside it would do this in 6th or 7th on the highway at full boost. Is there anyone else experiencing this? My charge pipes were replaced but that's obviously not the problem. My lease is up next month and with an incoming R35 in the spec I want, I'm considering just moving on before those cars disappear. |

A vacuum leak or maybe you're experiencing compressor surging (not sure) high boost @ low rpm. What's the WG duty cycle at that rpm?

Upload a vid to Ytube and post the link here so we can hear what you hear.
You can also data log and make sure you get WGDC%. Email PTF Support and tell them which of your logs to look at. I think (not sure) WGDC in high 90s starts to show problems. Yes, changing CPs can cause a boost leak. One guy had a pinhole under the powder coat...

I’m not sure if I have the same issue but my car is a 6mt with the BM3 CS+ tune with charge pipes and open intakes. When I’m on 3rd or 4th and build boost or WOT, the sucking sound from the intakes sound like it’s oscillating a bit. Switch gears and or be in a higher gear, the sucking sound from the intakes isn’t broken up and is in full vacuum mode. I’m thinking it could be TC? Doesn’t happen with the stock tune and intakes. Thoughts?

I'm stage 1, 91 ACN. I've had this happen ever since I did bootnod3 years ago. I always thought it was my MSR intakes doing it. And with the intakes the noise is way louder. Its not TCS, that gives a very different exhaust flutter noise. I assumed it was harmless, but maybe I'm wrong? Very curious on a fix to this.

Dealer cannot even do ISTA wastegate adjustment without flagging the car. Both the foreman and service manager are very friendly with me and do not want this to happen. I don't recall this happening on Alpine tunes but the pedal sensitivity and communication was a massive turnoff. Bootmod3 feels 100% factory pedal wise. I was just at the dealer two weeks ago and before going flashed to stock and relocked. No flagging happened and they did regular service no questions asked.
For your issue why don’t you log it and post here and send to them to take a look and see if they shed some light on it? |

I was told you won't get flagged for a normal service. I have never flashed back to stock for service. It's when diagnostics are involved, their systems now immediately pick up a DME that's been tampered with locked or unlocked. I didn't question any further, and after some research it seems to be true. BMW is really trying their hardest to stop tuning. |

Ill log today. I know how to start and stop logging in the client, but how do I upload or get a link for the forums?
Also, other then WGDC%, any other metrics I should record that aren't on by default that might be relevant here? |

You know WOT in 6th and 7th is really moving up there.... you might be pushing the limits of the turbo. At what RPM are you at when your engaging full boost? Why not try some dedicated 5th gear pulls 2k to redline. Single gear no shift and see if it occurs. Log the run and review. Then go from there.......
I know the old JB4 used to surge horribly trying to search boost target but the flash has been much more stable. Log it then submit ticket...... Also sounds like you have moved on with the R35 order...... just don't sweat the so called surge and wait for the GTR and enjoy |
