noticing a lot of south florida peeps swapping from M3's to Model 3/Y's.
I was on that boat but just swapped back into a M3. As reliable and fun it is to drive there was always something missing. I will say the Model 3 is an excellent road trip car though...(minus the long waits at the supercharger stations during weekends/holidays) On average I've waited close to 45 minutes (before starting charge) due to the limited availability at the time of supercharger stations on the turnpike. Hoping now that they've built more there won't be a long line to wait.

Interesting. In 2 years of ownership I have yet to wait *at all* for Supercharger access. (I’ve done 15+ road trips in the car in that timeframe)

I've also experienced super chargers that have started to overheat so it cuts the output significantly. This happened to me at Harris Ranch over the summer. It's not perfect but there is really no competition right now so what can you do.

I totally understand. Walking away from the F80 was really tough, and who knows perhaps at some point I may come to a different conclusion about the Tesla. Right now it just seems to make sense for me personally. The MYP is quick enough, is capable enough, and it won't lure me down the modding rabbit hole (simply don't have time to build/mod another car). The EV experience so far has been fantastic, I think everyone who can should give it a try.

You are right on with your plan to get a used 911 to share garage space with Tesla. I’ve been very happy with that setup for several years now That being said, UP posted a 1:36.xx at Laguna Seca with their M3P test car so there’s more evidence that if you want to, you can use the EV for track days as well |

There’s still the 1:37.5 LS time from last year set by a full interior car with mountain pass Perfomance suspension parts I get that it’s hard to compare times across days but my main point still holds.... you don’t “need” a gas car to be reasonably fast at casual HPDE events anymore. It’s come down to a personal preference for the most part |

Jokes aside, if your f80 is a commuter, EV with advanced driver assist is a huge win. If f80 is your toy, then don’t get rid of it for an EV, unless you are able to also consider the EV a toy. |

I’m curious what gives you the impression that a 3 series is larger inside than the Tesla Model 3? According to the specifications, the Model 3 has more front seat room, more cargo space and equal rear seat room...

I'm pretty sure the Model 3 is bigger inside than my F80. Like very sure even without looking at numbers. It feels big and airy. It also eaiser for me to load my Trek Domane in the trunk vs the F80. So if he's really tall, the Model 3 would feel much rommier all around and especially the headroom. No contest to which car has for headroom. Even in the back. |

I didnt buy a M3P due to how cramped I was but I owned an F80 without space issues for 2 years. I essentially had to sit with my legs like a frog in the Tesla. Even posted about it in this thread previously. |

One if the reasons Ive always been an M3 stan is because its one of the only fun “sports cars” I can fit in decently well. I used to be crazy and drove things like a 911... I would like to try a MY. |

Maybe the Model 3’s seat is closer to the floor so the lower half of your legs were less bent downward? |

I guess it has to do with the seating position. Its actually odd to me because in the car the Tesla seemed subsequently smaller. |

Headroom is 1.6” more in the Model 3, according to Edmunds. Trunk capacity 15 cubic feet in the Model 3 vs. 13 cubic feet in the 3 series, but that number doesn’t include the Model 3’s huge underfloor trunk compartment or “frunk”, each of which will easily swallow a rolling carry-on bag. Bottom line is that the Model 3 is roomier overall. To me it feels about as large inside as most recent mid-size German sedans (5 series, A6, E-class) |
