Autoweek states that new M3/M4 will do 0-60 in 3.9sec and standing kilometer in 22 sec.

It took 22 sec for this M3 with G-Power and 620ps to do standing kilometer.

BMW official numbers are notoriously inaccurate, from one gen to an other, from one engine to another.
Case in point, some BMW official numbers:
The MT E46 M3 0 to 60 4.8 sec and the MT E92 M3 was 4.8 sec.
N54 grossly underrated, the S65 not the case.
Going by BMW official numbers, an E46 M3 will smoke a N54 335i to 60mph...not the case in the real world.

From insideline.

Quote:
These disadvantages play out on the drag strip, where the 335i is 0.2 second behind the 135i to 60 mph (5.0 seconds vs. 5.2 seconds) — a gap that holds to the end of the quarter-mile, where the 135i finishes its run in 13.3 seconds at 104 mph vs. the 335i's performance of 13.5 seconds at 103.7 mph. The M3 is the slowest of this group, running to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and finishing the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 103.3 mph.

Real world numbers will give you a better sense of what kind of improvement we'll see.

Real world numbers will give you a better sense of what kind of improvement we'll see.

You are confusing 0-60mph and 0-100km/h. E46 was listed at 5.0s to 100km/h and 4.8s to 60mph. E9X 6MT is 4.8s to 100km/h and 4.7 to 60mph.

BMW numbers are usually very conservative. Meaning that they are easily achievable in the real world. I also believe they don't exclude the traditional 1 foot roll-out. And yes, on average, a E46 M3 is usually slightly quicker to 60mph than a 335i.

Swamp2 did very good predictive analysis on the 0-60 performance of the F8X showing it will be significantly quicker than the E9X.

The fact that BMW officially quote the F8X half a second faster than the E9X indicates that they are confident it will be quicker by a significant margin to 100km/h / 60mph. That was my original point

Will it be 0.5s faster in the real world? I agree, we will have to wait for instrumented tests to see...

really... this m3 looks almost exactly like a .... f30 msport... i feel like most of engineering is under the skin; i feel like it is pretty discreet on the outside.

An all black M4 including the grill with just the CCBs gleaming will look seriously bad@ss. I'm leaning towards an AW over black leather M3 though.

The point I tried to make, you can not go by the BMW published numbers since they tend not to be accurate wheter they are 0 to 60, 0 to 62, 0 to 100 km/h.

And Then reach a conclusion that's a hell of an improvement.

I'm going to wager that the rear blinkers are either solid red or white LEDs in the US.

Just my opinion.
Because it is.

I've driven several E90 M3's. And while I loved the car, there were a few issues. 1, overall, just not large enough for me and the family. My wife and I are both tall, and with the E9X seats adjusted for us, the space between the seat back and the rear seat cushion is about as much as the length of an iPhone. Plus, as an athletically built guy, the E90 M3 seats, even with bolsters opened max, were too narrow for me. Finally, even with full leather, the cabin seemed a little low rent. I was very disappointed. I eventually went with an F10 535. Nice car but a boat in comparison.

I recently tried to see if I could fit us into an E93, but while the convertible specific seats fit me a bit better, I couldn't even fit the kids seats in the back at all.

Now the F80 comes along and it's perfect. It's still small, but just big enough we can all fit for an hour or two without complaining. I will miss the S65's hysterical shriek, but the S55 should be a stonker.

Any chance Autoweek is a BS source?

Quote:
Both cars will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine. The 3.0-liter unit is based around the German carmaker's familiar N55 engine, with 84.0 mm bore and 89.6 mm stroke measurements. BMW's M division said that the changes to the aluminum block, cylinder head, induction and exhaust systems and internal architecture are enough to classify the engine as all-new.
