Was on about 700 miles when dropped it off. Trip up to Lorcan will add another 350 onto that.

Great in-depth review. As others have said, very informative. One thing I have to admit, I thought the comp package came with the MPE. It sounds like a "sport exhaust" with some flap changes and new tips.

Another question!!!!!!!!!
Guy, I dont think you covered the gearchange (drive dynamics?) button that alters how quick the gear changes occur? You had a play with that yet? Does it apply to both manual and auto modes of the DCT? Cheers.

That's about the size of it. Although we now have had someone who has fitted a CP exhaust to a standard M3 and say it's deeper. Quite how that is possible when not running CP software and supposedly no changes to back box is a mystery!!

that button just allows you to change how quickly the gears change whilst in 'D' depending on your driving style. whether you want a sportier gear change and hold it in gear longer (redline) or an efficient softer gear change for better fuel consumption. so if you have D1 showing on the dash, it changes up very quickly to get you in top gear asap, and with D3 showing it will hold it in gear higher up the rev range. I think it also adjusts to your driving style. so if you gun it often it will stay in gear all the way to redline. as soon as you switch to 'S' or manual mode, it will change to S3 and bang the gears in as quickly as you can pull the paddle. in the M5 and even in the old e92 m3 (I think) if you turned off traction completely, you got a further hidden 'gear ferocity' setting over and above the usual bars.. so bangs in the gears lightening quick, but I found it made the change too ferocious and unsettled the rear at speed and on bends like the old SMG box.. does that help? i'm sure Guy will have a better explanation of how it works

Hi Guy, have I given Andy/dopper right info on this and understood correctly? have you found the same or know if it functions differently?

D1 - efficient, D2 - relaxed and D3 - sport Works in much the same way as you would expect. D1 is always selected on startup but you can code whatever you want to M buttons. On any damp conditions it's very easy indeed to unsettle the rear even on 2nd setting. Learn to be smooth and it's brilliant. I'm still sussing out MDM. Slackens up traction but still doesn't seem to give you much chance of slip angle, even in the wet (and I really tried to catch it out yesterday) - was quite surprised how restrictive it was even in those conditions. Equally surprising was how quickly i was making progress in pants conditions. But it does seem a little sad that they couldn't have a more leniant DSC setting beyond MDM as after that it's TC off and having tried it briefly, you'd really need to have your wits about you.

Fantastic review there Guy. It was partly down to your review of the 335d back in 2013 that got me in one then and yet again I'm tempted!
Quick question re the lumbar support. Did you find that you had to have adjustable lumbar on the 335 previously? I've unfortunately found previous BMWs that didn't have lumbar very uncomfortable, something that was immediately rectified by having the adjustable support. |

I also noticed you did not upload the M3 standard vs M3 CP vid Guy. Not sure if that was deliberate though as it provokes a few differing views.
Was a really good vid.
