Hey F83 , did you get your Patek? I've been looking ... but just can't seem to settle on what i'd want, and it's just like cars: drivetrain, servicing costs, re-sale, brand, styling, etc etc.
I'm not a Patek guy as I just don't value their detail for some reason (i.e., hand polishing parts you can't see, etc), but then I'm still not sure what I do like ... I kinda think I'm a German guy and I do like more original movements / parts than not so anything from the Glashütte region is appealing (Glashütte Original, NOMOS, A. Lange & Söhne, et al). NOMOS is a bit too "square glasses" design-wise for me, but I do like them, just not my thing. Lange is awesome, but again, I don't value the detail, so of those I'd probably get the GO NOMOS, I like the blue: A. Lange & Söhne (worth an ///m?) Here's my Glashütte Original pick, with all the regional scrolling, and this has every feature i'd want including the power meter, but I don't think I want a dressy watch ... And if I'm looking for detail-master, even though Spring Drive is the DCT of watch world, I think you can't beat the Grand Seiko Snowflake: Maybe this is why people have a collection, but I'm not sure I want that either ... so, I think i'm a sport watch guy (which is what I have now, a Bathys Benthic, but quartz), so that probably means for me either The Omega Speedmaster: Or the Ulysse Diver: And that concludes watch-nerd talk for today! |

Here’s my collection; Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m Titanium. This is the watch that I wear around the house, truly doing sports, washing the car, whatever. Completely indestructible, anti-magnetic, and with 600m of water resistance, it fits the bill when I’m chilling in the Marianas Trench. My Rolex GMT Master II Great practical watch. Also very tough. Holds two time zones and is antimagnetic also so it’s great for travel. It’s a Rolex so it can be viewed as a little douchey in some circles, but that works in certain settings also. My Heuer Monaco Team Gulf Special Edition. Not a fan of Tag Heuer but I do like the Monaco. I like that they only brand it Heuer to pay homage to the time when it was a more serious high horology company. I guess this one lets me channel my inner Steve McQueen. IWC Portugueser automatic. Black alligator strap and blue hands. Dressy casual watch, it’s great with jeans or work clothes. It’s really big (44mm I think?) so that’s part of the look. Wear this one a lot. Gets attention of watch people but doesn’t force attention from those that don’t know watches. Then there’s my Devon Tread 2. Just a funky crazy watch that tells time through moving belts. I like wearing this in tech settings where everyone expects me to be wearing an Apple Watch or Fitbit. (On those - I’ve settled that I hate smart watches for anything other than fitness tracking). It’s a fun watch, people don’t know what the fuck it is when they see it. Omega Speedmaster Professional “Moonwatch”. I just think of this as a simple, beautiful watch. The history of it (first watch on the moon) is also cool. This is the one with the hesalite crystal and hand winding to keep it “authentic”. It’s cool to me that the famous “11 second burn” that was hand executed on Apollo 13 was done on this watch. I have a Seagul 1963 Chinese Military Pilots watch on a NATO strap. Just a quirky fun watch that gets attention and tells great time. Finally, my Jaeger-Lecoultre Rose Gold Grand Reverso Duo Time. My go to dress watch and the highest end of the bunch. You probably know but two faces that you can switch between by flipping the face around. This one lets you run a different time zone on each which is great for travel. Yeah it’s silly to have all these but I love watches like I love cars.

If you're a diver, Panny is doing a special edition submersible with record holding free diver Guillaume Néry - basically you go to Tahiti for a week and dive with Nery and pick up your new limited edition watch. If I was going to spend mid 5 figures on a watch it'd have to be tied to something like that ... I think they're only making 19 of them |

He is a bit expensive, don't you think? I took him two beers three years ago, and he still hasn't asked for more!

I had IPE message me on Instagram
Still have my Akrapovic thanks. I thought about lying and getting IPE for free but I totally didn't want to lie about it.

Nah, but for you of course I'll make one. That was one of our funniest little things. I still laugh at that thread at times.

Okay, so I'm now stuck in a wonderland of pizza and milk shakes but I have to tell you a story when ever I get back home. I think I need to hand my eldest over to some nice parents who won't ruin her further.

So, I'm done for the year, at least when it comes to school participation. Today was the last one on one with a parent and a teacher chat, this one was for the history books tho.

4/4 one on one plus the kid chats about my kids are done for the year! That means I am done parenting for this year!
Robin, the youngest is apparently a perfect child, if we exclude the minor things like him telling his teachers he can't either count or read so he didn't need to do any of their work all autumn semester. When he got busted in the chat, he told the teacher he wanted to spend the school hours playing. "Yes, I've heard about the family Lups. This fits the pattern" Julian forgot how to read or write or to count this year also, apparently he was busy doing renovations so he couldn't do the demanding school work. When he got busted, he told the teacher that he isn't lazy, but if this excuse could fly, why not use it? "Yes, fits the pattern. We have talked about your kids in the teachers lounge a few times." By the time Lili's chat was coming around I was ready to die. "Oh, she is an epic student. A steady student, prudent, willing to handle problems. When someone says something mean to her, she destroys them funnily, not too humiliatingly and walks off. We have talked about her style in the teachers lounge. She seems to be the easy kid in your family." Well, I got my hopes up, a stupid human I am. So today was my hellraisers chat. She's a year younger than any other student in her building and hitting the seventh grade next year (we start a year later here than you do normally) which means she gets to pick a new school or class with an emphasis on some topic. I was a few minutes early so the teacher told me very kindly that... "You have a very special child. I'm not being mean, it's just a new challenge for me in my career after 25 years of teaching". Well, that started off well... "I thought a guidance councelor should be present" *Anna dies a bit*. Then she went through her progress, all topics, history, religion, math, pe, science, civics, finnish, swedish, english and what ever else they try to stuff the kids with. Was trying to figure out why the GC was needed there, apparently all her teachers had marked her down for a recommendation if she wants to move to a school that emphasis their subject. So the teacher went on and on, apparently my kid is a bit stubborn but all in all eager to learn and good with her peers. Again, why the hell was the GC there? "I'm eager to see what you end up picking, K." The GC said. "Yes, I want to go to math school." " we talked about this, there are hundreds of kids trying and there is a test to get in and math isn't your strongest subject. Besides, all your classmates would probably be boys". "They shave down their teeth these days. They don't bite much these days anymore" " yes, but math isn't your strongest subject." "Ehem, she has gotten a steady 9 1/2 from all three tests this year, and I recall taking points off for not writing perfect sentences when requested to do so for the result" " yes, but hundreds of kids apply for it and it would be too demanding since she is a year younger than other kids" I just sat there... " Well, I haven't had the time to put in any effort in math this year, but I'm sure I can be perfect by the time the test is in february. I need the extra math to reach my future goals and I think I'm more than suited to operate in the level needed, even if I am younger. My mom and dad will let me apply, I will be recommended by the math teacher apparently and my home class teacher had no complaints to list. I'm suitable." "Yes but" "Sir, it seems all adults in my life are willing to support my educational goals and you're trying to keep me back. Are you sure you're perfectly suitable for your chosen career?" We had a moment of silence I ended with a thank you and by telling her home class teacher she will be applying to the math school and then I walked away. "I taught you to respect authorities." "Yes, that was a but mean but that was the second time he told me I couldn't do it." "Well, he can be filed under the shitty adult clause: respect needs to be mutual" Then I took her and her friends out for pizza and there are many of those even if she is a huge nerd.

Sorry to go back to politics but...
It is absolutely ASTOUNDING to me that 40% of the nation still thinks Trump is doing a good job. - At best he committed campaign finance felonies - At worst he conspired with Russia to subvert democracy - His trade war with China and steel/aluminum tariffs have already cost jobs in the Midwest - He had embolded hate groups and hate speech - His policies are OBVIOUSLY about further enriching the rich while hollowing out healthcare and public education - Admittedly he is a master manipulator but other than that is a fucking moron in every way I could go on and on and on obviously but sheesh. I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who needs help and believes he has answers/solutions. Unbelievable.

When the economy crashes etc that approval rating will fall into the 20s. But, until then as long as people are doing well he probably stay around where he is at now. There isn't much else he can do to prove he is a moronic asshole so they obviously don't care about that. |
