Wow. I’m questioning some of the parts but hey, that’s the insurance company needing to sort that out I guess.
Hope she comes out of surgery ok

About the size of a football with similar shape. Imagine how erratic a football bounces and then imagine it's hard as a rock and banging around batshit crazy under my car at 45mph having a grand old time racking up the repair bill. This was the Led Zeppelin of rocks and my undercarriage was the hotel room of an epic party.

OP do you think a skid plate would have "saved you"? I'm considering buying one but not sure yet. I want to understand real life situations.

Thanks and best of luck.

Not unless the plate is strong enough to break that rock up into much smaller pieces. Nonetheless, I'm more inclined to get one even before I got the estimate.

I think one of these cattle catchers might do the trick:

Me either. I thought $5k maybe. Bumper and oil cooler.

ouch.

I hope they fix the car very well! Is it in OC at C&C? :P

I know the pain of rock damage. When I had my M4, had a a rock the size of a golf ball impact my car's A-pillar. Obviously not as bad as the damage you received but, definitely not a good day.

With a rock that size you're lucky it didn't go through something worse like the windshield. Sorry to hear about the car OP, but as you say some folks in CA are a bit worse off this week so keep it in perspective.

Hey man, I'm glad to hear it in the process of getting sorted out and it's a comp claim with $500 deductible. Not bad at all, all things considered.

Nice save on turning the engine off in time. Crazy how things just sort of add up.

hope you get it to the track soon after all this

Have you considered HPDE insurance after this?
Yeah I'm counting my blessings. While it didn't happen on the track this time, this goes to show how easily things can go very wrong. What carrier do you recommend? Looks like it's around $350 with a 10% deductible. That's pretty steep.

Maybe saved the oil cooler but a football sized rock would have still done the rest of that damage.
Thanks. Appreciate the input. I guess oil cooler itself is worth the expense.

That definitely doesn't look like $28k in damage, I'm sure the exhaust would have been fine. Where did you take it to to get fixed, the dealer?

The MPE is slightly damage but insurance will replace anything that is damaged.

You can definitely make money out of it.
