Seems like a positive review... build quality or refinement not on par with a GTI but performance to match and at a lower price... in my opinion, Hyundai could have far more success here than building a luxury marque like Genesis... they have Albert Biermenn as the suspension engineer... u know the former head of BMW M lol?

Wish they brought the 5 door N.

Would rather have one of these than any current smaller BMW. A lot of old school BMW dna in them...with Biermann in charge

Another attempt to downplay Hyundai's rising power in the automotive industry. Another commendable effort by Hyundai to stand out in the crowd.

How? 2006 level HP & FWD. This is not exciting or groundbreaking.

Their build quality also still sucks.

I suppose the HP is indicative of what your username is.

But I can say your Miata is still 90s HP if that's how you want to compare things.

I like it. The styling is wild but hot hatches often are. FWD with 260 lbft and 275 hp at ~3K lbs from a 2 liter 4-banger. Must be a blast to drive.

BMW 230i - less hp

VW Gti - less hp
Audi A3 - less hp

what am I missing here? And these cars all cost twice as much. Oh, and all of them other than the BMW are also FWD, and the BMW is FWD everywhere else in the world as a 1 series.

So yeah.... there's that.

Heck, even the Audi S3 and VW Golf R are only putting out about 20-30hp more than this.
275 HP in a FWD hatch is so mid 2000s. Mazdaspeed3/6 anyone? So yea, mid 2000s tech.

Love how you're comparing cars not even in the same segment. I'll buy an A4, and I do not want one of them either, before any Hyundai. The R & S3 are AWD & much nicer cars. Anything else, sir?

I don't know anyone that gets excited about FWD if they're talking performance.

My Miata is a 97 model car, not 2019. I can also see apples to oranges. You have nothing factual to add I see as well.

My username has zero to do with facts. Finally, when someone bashes whatever car X poster drives because they disagree with the facts of life.

OP did you read the article?

The point of this car is not to compete with something like a Golf R or Civic Type R but fill the gap between them and a Civic Si and Golf GTI.

Closest competitor would be a Focus ST, which is being discontinued.

I think its a good move for Hyundai.

Obviously. Your reality is plainly not what most of the rest of the world's is (or Car & Driver's).

This is, pure and simple, a toe dip in the hot-hatch (or somesuch) water for Hyundai. It's targeting a niche within a niche just as tennisfreak states. Not everybody wants or needs 400-plus HP cars -- not even enthusiasts.

Post again when it starts producing the mid-engine Veloster prototype that's been rumored (and sighted) for 2-3 years now. I'd put money on it becoming a production car in some form, but with a hybrid powertrain ... you know, because cars like your Hellcat -- which, by the way, basically harks back to the mid-1980s if not earlier, if we're talking about dating driveability tech -- will be totally obsolete pigs that no one with an appreciation for true, complete, and current automotive performance will buy. Hell: they barely buy them now.

You obviously missed everything I was saying & just want to hurl backhanded dumb insults. Good day.
