The oil change interval stays at 9000 miles even after Ive driven it for 1500 miles?

Wondering if there is something im missing here, everytime i check when oil change is due it says an even 9000k miles, ive had the car for at least 1500miles and it always says 9k on the dash?

Hey,

First off, congratulations on your "New" ///M!

Your first oil change should already have been done with your initial "break-in service" @ (+-) 1200 miles.
The next one is normally indicated as being due @ 10K.

From there (assuming the o.c. interval was properly reset), it's rather simple. Regardless of how many miles
you've accumulated, your car will always indicate (mileage) when the next corresponding oil change is due.

F.Y.I.: I opt to have mine done at 5K intervals.

Cheers!

Hey,

Yes!

The interval indications are fixed.

You can do them whenever you like so long as the oil change interval indication is reset, at such time. It's like your odometer! It's like the NFL!

Each time it is reset, It is configured from the factory to add +10K to the then current (actual) mileage and calculate a corresponding date.

Cheers!

this may not be worth your time but i think im not saying this correctly. The dash says oil sevice required IN 9000 miles. This number always says In 9000 miles. I have 23000 miles on the car. Wouldnt that number (9k) become smaller the longer i drive the car?

Hey,

Ok., I don't have near half that amount on mine, so I may be off here...

How many miles did your car have last time you had a service/oil change?

For example, If I'm now understanding you better, If it had (23K-1.5K), 21.5K miles,
I believe it should indicate (I'm not sure what the interval would be at this mileage),
"Next Service due at 31.5K miles").

Have you been getting the oil changed at the dealership? If so, go back and have
them look into this. If not, was improperly reset at some point. Nonetheless, it
should not be stuck at 9K, since you have more than that already.

Cheers!

It moves in increments of 1k miles for the first 8k miles or so and then it starts moving to smaller increments like hundreds of miles as it gets closer. So for example when you reset the maintenance it shows 10k miles until next service. Once you drive approx 1k miles it will then show 9k miles until oil service. OP mentioned he has driven about 1,500 miles so it makes sense that it still shows 9k miles. Once he drives another 500 miles (2k in total since reset) it will show 8k.

When it gets closer to service time it will start counting down smaller 900 miles, 800 miles, etc.

Hey,

Ok., Sorry for any misinformation I may have previously given you but, here goes...

Mine's not a DD.

I was driving it today and I took a look at your issue. I'm spit balling here so, bear with me.

I had my oil changed last @ roughly 5.5K miles (+10K) I know have 6.9K. It is indicating,
"Next Service due in 7K miles", which makes sense. Here's My $0.0125:

* 5.5K + 10K = [15.5K miles (+-) 15K miles]. - should be 20K?!?
* 6.9K + 7K = [13.9K miles (+-) 15K miles]. - "

It indicates +10K (I believe it calculates with a factor of every 6 mos. = 10K miles) from the
last Oil Change(reset) to the next. So, as you accumulate mileage from the mileage at last
service, the mileage indication for your next service will show less and less as you get closer
to it. I suspect it may also be learning to adjust this interval based upon the time period
lapses in between.

Cheers!

Thanks for donating so much of your time in this simple issue. I noticed today that it now says next oil service due in 8000 miles. So I guess I had not driven it enough since I got the car to get the interval down.

Just read what I wrote above. It doesn't count down by the mile but rather per 1k miles until it gets closer to service time.
