I used to live near Qualcomm and just went to auto cross one time to so could DSC off my f80 around the parking lot.
6 minutes of driving + hours standing around shagging codes is not how I prefer to spend my day. Big willow, Buttonwillow north of LA and Autoclub speedway (Fontana) are the closest tracks. My $0.02, I like buttonwillow best. Big willow and auto club are big speed tracks in F80 and I'm personally not super comfortable going 130mph (indicated speed at the of the straight) with just the 3pt stock belts |

For SoCal, the San Diego Chapter, Los Angeles Chapter, and the Central California Chapter of the BMW CCA collaborate on HPDEs 2-3 times a year. We had a contract with Chuckwalla and ran there before there were many improvements, but now use Buttonwillow (again). We also have HPDEs at Willow Springs (Big Willow) and Streets of Willow from time to time. The Golden Gate Chapter will also put on an HPDE at Laguna Seca 1-2 times a year, and at least once a year at Thunderhill, usually in November. BMW CCA HPDEs always have an instructor in the car but if you're good enough you can get signed off and run solo.
When I had my S2000, I used to run with Speed Ventures, who have events at all of the above tracks. Not as instructional as BMW CCA, you usually only get instruction the first couple of times. No instructors in cars, so you, and everybody else, is pretty much on your own. Upcoming events are posted on their websites and/or Facebook pages.
