These pieces are VIN Binded

Awron usually charges $250 to reset the software.

I can hook it up on a new one!

Awron is not married to the vehicle's VIN, there is an optional flash for Delete-R and EVC controls if desired at an additional cost.

We have AWRON units in stock, ready to ship immediately. PM me when ready.

Thru personal experience the Awron gauge is NOT VIN matched.

I purchased a slightly used one from the forum & installed in my F32 - no problems

I don't see why the F8x gauge would be any different than the F3x...

Awron did this early on the F3x displays when the M3/M4 was released and increased the price for M-models, the early firmware would work on both models back then. Later on, a message would display that the unit was installed in the incorrect chassis, which ultimately forced us to double up on inventory.

I don't see any benefit to going this direction, as the gauge doesn't operate different or take advantage of any new features. Luckily, we purchased a large stocking order and our current inventory does not have this firmware so displays can be sold/transferred without any additional cost.

That's probably why you had no issues, the VIN is binded with the software for the EVC and Delete R.

That's my understanding from the email and the situation we ran into

EVC/DELETE-R is based off the device ID, not VIN.

Sorry Tom, you know everything and anything without having to read. I forgot

I know that Awron's english isn't good, but can you clarify why the email says the display will not work on the new ECU without software reset?

Inform me please as I do not know, nothing about device ID

It's pretty clear in the email, but I'll explain.

Every module (including DME) within the network has a Device (or hardware) ID. This has nothing to do with the VIN. The HVAC housing that Awron uses for their displays is a factory BMW part and will fit all 3 & 4 Series, including M3/M4.

However, that's where the similarities end. Awron uses different profiles within the firmware for different vehicles:

- F3x 3-Series, 4-Series (non-M)
- F8x M3/M4

Once installed, the Awron display will look for the Device/Hardware ID of the DME in order to operate. If trying to install an Awron that was programmed for a F3x chassis into a M3 or M4, you will get a "incorrect chassis" error and the display will not operate. This wasn't the case a few years ago, but the change was made later when the F8x was released later on. If it works, you're lucky.

Current production F3x (non-M) displays will not work with the F8X chassis - the hardware IDs between the vehicles are different. Awron can provide a firmware patch (at an additional cost) to provide compatibility. Awron (or EAS) will need to know the Awron serial (located both on within the setup menu and on a decal on top of the HVAC housing) for them to compile the upgrade, which can be upgraded within the USB cable from the display. The same upgrade is provided for those that want the Delete-R and EVC features - both at an additional cost.

The Awron display does not marry itself to the vehicle's VIN and can be sold at a later date, provided it is installed into another car that shares the same engine/DME.

If your display was originally purchased/installed for a 3/4 Series (non-M) you'll likely get an incorrect chassis error as explained above and need to change the Awron firmware (at additional cost) to provide compatibility. We have a DIY for the install portion listed here when ready to tackle the install:

In my case when purchasing a used Awron; I knew that there are different P/N's for the gauge between my F32 and an M3 or M4 - therefore, I made certain the unit I purchased was originally for a F3x series and double checked the supplied P/N & Ser#

As stated, it worked perfectly for my F32 - confirming fact that they are not VIN matched, but are specific between ///M & non ///M models

Hopefully Z33c made sure the unit he purchased was originally for a F8x series car...
