Keyed...
I finally got the full BMW treatment: On 01-Jan-08 my car was keyed for apparently no reason. The perpetrator dug his key into my driver's side door and continued to the rear quarter panel. I was parked next to my best friend's girl's car (a 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible) and she was also keyed. I was upset at first but figured that's life and I just have to fix it.
I am more concerned over where to fix it than anything else. I got an estimate at a shop in South Miami (European Automotive) that came out to roughly $1150. These people deal with exotic cars sent to them by The Collection and I was recommended to them by someone close and reliable. If you're from Miami and have any suggestions, I am planning on going to a few other places because depending on what I get quoted elsewhere is whether or not I go through the insurance. I prefer shops that deal with cars valued in the price bracket of our BMWs. My deductible is $500. Having dealt with body shops a number of times in the past, my concern isn't the job done on the outside as much as how they treat the car overall. I've been to a shop that let the dust pile high inside of the car and when I switched them up the next time I had an incident, my leather seat was messed up to the point where replacement was needed. For these reasons, I am weary of leaving my car just anywhere. My lease is up in Feb of 2009 and up until now, the car has remained in gem condition (yes I am anal). As far as pictures are concerned, there is nothing much to see besides a straight line from the middle of the door and on to the next panel. I can get a few up but it won't be until this weekend.

That sucks! Happened to my M5 that I purchased. It was a horrible feeling because I knew that it would hurt the value of the car come resale time.
I get attached to my cars and am anal as well, so the 335i we just got was leased. Knowing full well that this could happen again, emotionally it wouldn't drain me as much being that it is a leased car. So, with that said, being that your ride is leased, just get it repaired and don't beat yourself up about it worrying about excessive damage that could or could not happen during the repair stages. |

Media Ignore Anti-war Lawyer Keying Marine's Car
Jay Grodner keyed a $2400 side-to-side gash into Sgt. Mike McNulty's car. When confronted, Grodner berated McNulty, who was getting ready to redeploy to Iraq, with anti-military epithets, even telling the Marine he was too “small” to be a “soldier" (sic).
