Got the CarBahn tune
Well I decided to pull the trigger......
Maybe my expectations were low but I am REALLY impressed with this tune. The peak power gains are modest at best but the difference throughout the rpm range is significant and superb. Feels like a new car. I'm loving it and need to be careful with dsc off. Rear tires spin A LOT more :-)

I actually think it is more linear.....not that it needed more torque but it comes on earlier, stronger and linear. This based on my butt dyno not their hp/tq curves which I haven't studied.

I did the Carbahn tune this past fall. Had a couple of issues which were resolved/corrected but I then ran out of good weather (called Winter here in Wisconsin). So, little or no track time to test everything out before the snow. Waiting for the spring thaw.

Yup can't wait to see how she does on track now. I needed a tune more that the car but it still feels great........not expecting better lap times because of the above but looking forward to more grins.

I did not. I actually asked for a before and after but their dyno was committed for the week to their R8's that they were prepping for a race the following week.
I may still ask for it to be done on a down time for their dyno..... The software load took minutes.....so easy to redo

Did they do the crank hub as well? Was that power figure using just distilled water in the tank or is it the water/meth mix the recommend with bigger turbos? Are you planning on tracking the car? If so, let us know how it performs on track both reliability wise and traction wise. |

They replaced crank hub w/a keyed hub. Per Carbahn, "OEM hub has timing chain sprocket that is not keyed to the hub and can spin/knock the engine out of timing."
Crank hub work was done during my Stage 2 upgrade, last July as well as Pure Stage 2 turbos (now switched out to Kratos turbos), upgraded front heat exchanger, upgraded top intercooler, colder plugs, new rear toe links, G.C. camber plates, software upgrade, corner balance & alignment. GTS was tested with distilled water in the tank and 93 octane gas (no meth/water mix). Note: Last July, I was told that "they were not doing the water/meth mix as it had an adverse effect on the internal diaphragm of the water injection pump which would fail after the methanol mix was put in." I do track my GTS and have for the last 3 years. After my Stage 2 upgrade last July, I had to really focus on the throttle control coming out of corners. The torque range was so short; 3500 to 4000 RPM's up 120 lb/ft, you had to be careful. Now, torque power band/range is far better. Along w/slight turbo lag coming out of corners, torque should be a lot smoother, longer and w/better control. I wasn't sure when I'd be better my GTS back. So, I had not booked any track events to date. Now, that it is back I will provide some track results. I do know that, just from the last two days, it is a totally new car. There is so much more power (but smoother power) plus, it is a lot louder. Right now, I'm just inching (and itching) my way up to do a launch control with it as I get comfortable with all of new 'stuff'. Last edited by dh3622; 06-24-2020 at 01:24 PM.. |

That's awesome! I'm glad to hear it still works well for a track car and isn't just a dyno queen. That's my big concern doing any power mods. I love the delivery of the GTS. It scarcely feels like an S55 to me. Totally different character. Good to hear it's still nice to drive. |

Sorry, confused. Those dynos are exactly the opposite of linear. The power is much more peaky than stock, with a later/steeper torque ramp up and then a sharper drop off up top. The usable power band is significantly narrower = not linear. That looks much harder to control and thus probably slower in many situations.
Could it be that the softer bottom end/later ramp up (3k vs 4k) allows you to get deep into the throttle earlier and not break traction while the torque ramps up? But then you OP says that traction is now an issue, which is back to my original point. Please explain as I'm surely missing something here.
