Rattle coming from rear center brake light

Anyone else have a rattling sound coming from something in the rear center light? It is only there during warm up when the exhaust is louder and when I gas it, but its still pretty annoying. It sounds like some plastic piece constantly hitting the metal.

Are you talking about the top third brake light? Its held to the roof by plastic clips. Maybe you have some that are broken.

Holy crap. I have the exact same issue. I also have a rattling under the passenger side dash that I'm about to take it to the dealer to be seen next week.

Ya. I took that piece off and I cant really feel anything that is loose. I could imagine the wires are whats making the sound but wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue and found a fix for it.

Definitely get that pack of clips as the blue one will break during removal. I actually reinstalled it with some thicker felt washers to isolate the clips from their own mounting points and the rattle has gone away. That rattle anyway...

Are these clips for the brake light itself? I guess I might have confused some people but the rattling I'm talking about isnt coming from the brake light itself. When my wife pushes up on the roof area around the light the rattling stops.

Ive attached a picture to show the area im taking about. Even with the cover left off like this I still get the rattling.

Just realized those clips aren't going to work for you since you have an M4. The M4 only has 2 clips.

Yes. For me, it seemed like the housing was rattling against the window.

I fixed it by inserting a couple of small pieces of thin self-adhesive foam strips between the brake light plastic housing and rear window. One on each side.

You can't see them if you trim the foam small enough to just hold its place between the plastic and glass (acts like a cushion/damper).

Just added a subwoofer to my M4 and the same rattle . I taped the wires down, added some extra sound deadened I had but the rattle is still there. Goes nuts on the higher hz bass notes . Just wanted to share. I also believe it’s the plastic light cover on the glass and not in the roof liner cover . Digging in deeper ...

I popped off the plastic cover and added felt pads that are meant for the bottom of chairs on hardwood on basically every flat surface I can find. It took care of MOST of the rattling. Unless I only think I'm hearing a rattle now due to being traumatized by such a pathetic widespread issue in such a car.

But hey... this $90,000 car is a race car... it will develop rattles according to the dumbass service advisor at my local BMW dealer. I felt like slapping him when I heard him say that.

I starting putting a little bit around all the hard parts… still rattled… did it more… still rattled… finally the third time I just absolutely loaded it up and put felt everywhere I could.
