One could argue that the Prius driver is more of the elitist than the ///M3 driver.....but I digress. Have at it young Earl! Elite away!

Maybe they sold a coupe and needed a sedan but couldnt find one in M3, I don't know. Go post your views on the M3 forum and then I guess you can call the entire forum elitist and silly for disagreeing.

It's really simple Earl.....

....sometimes peoples needs change. Sometimes the better car (..depending on how you define 'better' in any given moment) isn't the most practical or useful car. Maybe they have grown disenchanted with their ///M cars. Maybe they are just 'over' sporty cars in general and want something more comfortable. In my case there wasn't an F80 ///M3 to buy at the time, so I chose the 335i to hold me over. We could speculate all day long, but the bottom line is that people get tired of fine automobiles all of the time. I often wonder how somebody could give up a Porsche GT3, but it happens. With the amount of used ///M3's available for an individual to buy these days, I'm surprised that you're not giving yourself an aneurysm when you see an ///M3 on a used car lot. You've romanticized the car to death.

I'll present a similar analogy to you that I presented to Ezio in another thread............an analogy easy to comprehend, even for somebody like you who finds comprehension difficult......

....There are people who get tired of fucking supermodels - I know! Hard to fathom right!? - and end up with a 'girl next door'. Sure the girl next door may not provide the same visceral excitement in bed that the supermodel once did, but she provides something that better fits your needs as your needs and perspectives change (...and to take it to the furthest end of the spectrum....why do people tend to cheat with somebody who is worse looking than the person that they are with? Odd, isn't it?). Show me a hot chick, and I'll show you somebody who's tired of fucking her. That's a verifiable certainty!

Okay Earl! I'll grant you that one IF you refrain from making [usually baseless] generalizations without supporting evidence. I think that's the main point of contention that people have with you (...that, and your elitist comments). This forum is pretty patient. There are far worse examples on the interwebz.

Dual clutch transmissions will always be heavier than conventional 6 speed manuals, and this is the case for every car manufacturer. The reason is simply because the dual clutch transmission consists of more components than a conventional 6 speed.

Let's hope the F8x has better brakes than what Chris Harris' M3 has here:

So, DCT was adding 20kg in E9x model and it adds 40kg in F8x model? What made the new DCT transmission so much heavier?

only reason why his pedal went through the floor is due to fluild boil. all he needed here was some nice motul rbf fluid and the pedal will stay firn all day. now if stopping power starts to fade, than just gotta get better pads.
like i tell most people, good brake fluid n pads are enough for 99 percent of people out there even for 20min time attack sessions.

Yes, of course it's fluid boiling. The point is that on his stock M3 that happened. How many other cars does that happen to in in his videos?

Sure you can replace the stock fluid with aftermarket fluid, but should magazines do that before testing cars then?

A better question is "How many other stock M3's had brake fluid boil during track tests?" Harris' experience has a one off flavor given the absence of other track test videos or even write ups that denote boiling brake fluid issue such as he experienced, but I may have missed a vid or report.

a number of them at track days down here in texas, but its mostly severe pad wear and brake fade.

everyone that I know who tracks m3's knows that if you carry even moderate pace (like myself, average driver) you need to run upgraded fluid and brake pads on the m3 at the track. its just a weakness of the m3, and was the same thing on the e46

hopefully this will be resolved with the new 4/2 piston brakes coming standard on the new gen m3....(crossing fingers)

for street driving I think both e9x and e46 m3 brakes are perfectly fine and work great

DCT is the same weight in the e9x and F8x. Its the 6 speed manual in the F8x that is 20kg lighter then the one that was in the E9x.

I still like the E92 better from all angles. The M4 looks too much like a crossover... Maybe it will grow on me.

Some people hate change, some are scared, some are just plain haters... Arguing about these facts are futile as the new is here and old... Well it's in the past. After seeing the picture and those numbers I would pick the new m rather the v8.

No, I donīt think so ... the M-DCT tranny of the F8x is a little bit heavier than that of the E9x, the new 6 speed manual is 12kg lighter than that of E9x and if the difference at the F8x is 40kg compared to 20-25kg at the E9x so this meens that the M-DCT of the F10M5 = F8xM3/M4 ist 3-8kg heavier than the old tranny.

Seems to be the same thing like by the engines, the new S55 (205kg) is a little bit heavier than its precessor S65 (202kg) ... so only the manual tranny take its part in the weight saving efforts!

Thanks man! I think it's a futile exercise however. Or maybe I'm just insanely bored when I'm not working.
