Whut - using facts and data instead of myths and hyperbole? What a concept! Well done, sir! You will be thrown off the internet soon.....

I was all set on the M4 before I went to the dealer and saw both M4 and M3 parked next to each other. I pulled up a chair and sat at every angle around the cars. I must say the M4's rear is just too feminine next to the M3. I can see a hot girl in the M4 and I enjoy the view but I can only see a dude in the M3.
The stance of the 3 is just wider and looks much more aggressive. Go to any M4, and stand at an angle behind the car. Pretend that you are running your hand from the rear window down to the fender and then to the signals (similar to caressing a girl from her back to her rear), you see the extraordinary similarity here. M4 screams feminine sexiness but it adds this appeal only to a woman (or a soft skinned dude with smooth body curves). Now you won't be able to imagine that with the M3 because your hand wouldn't feel the smooth curve that M4 has. With the M3, you'll feel very angular, decisive turns around the fender area, leaving you to feel well defined muscles and masculinity. This is why I drive the M3 but ride the 4. |

Traditionally, always liked the coupe better, but this generation I think the M4 other than the roof to the oem M performance spoiler looks pretty bad. Its bland, doesn't look aggressive like the M3, and doesn't have the wide fenders. It looks rather feminine. Plus the section of paneling after the door is just too much. The M3 is certainly the better looking of the two. |

While the rear track of the M3 & M4 are nearly identical, the M3's rear fenders are flared much more than the M4. A BMW designer even confirmed this, stating that they wanted the M3 to have a wider, more aggressive appearance. The designers wanted the M4 to have a sleeker design; a design that "flows" from front to back. I've seen an M3 and M4 side-by-side, in person, and I prefer the flared fenders of the M3.

I definitely like the lower roof line of the M4, and the side profile is downright sexy. But I just love how the M3 looks mean and aggressive. They're two similar cars with very different looks.

The M4 looks better from the back. I was set on an M4 until I saw them both at a dealer and I will say, the M3 just looks mean.
I'm still debating whether or not I want the extra 2 doors. And I do like how the CFRP indent flows into the trunk on the M4. |

Not trying to keep this vicious cycle of a thread going here BUT... The rear of the m3 only looks wider because the car tapers to a narrower roof and the length of the body adds to that effect.
M4 is a much better looking car from the side obviously as all coupes are they are just downright sexy. The only thing I don't like about the M4 as far as design choices is the trunk integrated spoiler hump?? Which I've always hated (even the hunchback looking add on spoilers from e92). The M3s flat trunk lip and tail light shapes just look better. But if you guys are making a decision about two door vs. four door based on fenders and roof lines you're really missing the point of these new offerings. |

Why? The area, in the back third of the car, after the door line looks like it goes on forever on the M4. It just looks odd to me and makes the car appear longer/larger than what it really is.
