Front Endlinks Installation Tips Needed
I've got some front sway bar adjustable end links I've installed recently. I've seen different posts about the ideal geometry of the sway bar, whether to preload or not before measuring and torquing down endlink bolts..
I removed my sway bar to install stiffer bushings so really don't know what the ideal geometry of the stock sway bar is. I guessed at it. I had the wheels off and lifted both fronts by jacking up under the brake rotors to simulate the front end weight on the suspension before fitting and tightening them into position. Anything wrong here, or is there a better process some if you have performed. Pics coming shortly. |

MCS coils? Nice!
I would have whoever corner balance your car set up your end links. You don’t want any preload on the sway. |

Got some guidance from Phil at Bimmerworld. My endlinks are a little short, going to adjust them and reinstall on the car with the wheels mounted and on ramps to avoid preload and binding.

I sure hope the F and R end links were disconnected when the car was corner balanced! You definitely do not want to add sway bar preload during corner balancing because the car won’t be corner balanced when done. If any weight was moved from/to F-R with the “after” numbers then the sway bar end links were connected - you can only move weight from the side to side, not F to R, during corner balancing.

My preferred method for end links is 4 rhino ramps, adjust links there reaching up into wheel well and finding happy unencumbered position, then put car down and tighten with wheels removed.

I just took my sway bar off along with endlinks. (for drag racing). And noted the position of the endlinks load on FSB.
They are pretty well right at the start of being preloaded. Maybe just a hair of force needed to put the studs through the holes on the sway bar. So BMW did design it to have the endlinks already pulling slightly up on the sway bar, but not a crazy amount. Also to those of you that do mostly straight line stuff anyway, with all the strut bracing up top I hardly noticed a difference in regular driving. However it most definitely helped with weight transfer on the street/traction. I consistently cut 1.8x 60 foots now on the street without prep.
