There was a time where the technical section of BimmerPost was seriously technical, particularly on the E9X forum. There was this guy Swamp2 that was very knowledgable and we got into intense deep technical debates. I got to learn a lot from them and I hope so did he. Sadly, he got reprimanded/banned at some point and got pissed with the administration and left. A big loss for the community IMO. lemetier, Boss330 and Racer20 are also big technical contributors that went quiet recently (as well as many others). I miss those days...

Thanks for the kind words 😊

And you Sir, is one of the members in here that I learned a lot from and whom I have a lot of respect for! Always very knowledgeable, factual and polite.

I must say I also kinda miss those days. Both for it being so educational for myself, as I learned a lot in those discussions, and also how fun it was at times.

But in the end there was too many negative members (trolls) that behaved obnoxious just to create a negative spin it seemed. That took the fun out of it in the end for me.

Appreciate the recognition. I'm still here but there is less to say after having the car for 6 years. I've also got a GT4 on order, so I've been spending more time on Rennlist.

Congrats on the GT4 , it is one great machine.

For my part, I am just about to order a 992turbo, so we'll likely come across each other on Rennlist .

Wow, big step up! Are you going to keep the CS?

No, it will be to replace my CS. I am really not fond of what they did technically to the G8X. I would love a GT Porsche, but I need a 4-season daily driver with rear seats to schlepp the kiddies around and that I can also take to the track, so figured might as well go with the turbo to make it worthwhile .

Congrats on going the Pcar route. Will the kids fit into the back seat? I am also not a fan of the G8X, so I am quite curious how the ModelS plaid will turn out...

They are still quite young at 9 and 6, so yes, they do fit.

Basic config info:
KW V3
Volk TE37 19x9.5/19x10.5 275/295 PS4S
Bootmod3 Stage 1 (did some boost by gear reductions in 1-3)
1.9* camber front 2.2* rear (no camber plates yet)
High temp fluid/stock pads

And that's primarily it for performance related stuff. I kept my tire pressures at around 36 and they felt ok. Definitely spoke to me when they were trying to break loose so I was able to keep the car composed.

Top of my priorities for car stuff is to get some more seat time ASAP! I think in the shorter term after a few more sessions I'll look into camber plates -- thinking Vorshlag as they're local to me, and some 200tw tires. PS4S was not bad but I felt like I could be faster with something like an RE71R or maybe even try the new Federal RS-PRO for a low cost option. Anybody try the new Feds yet? For under $700 for a new set may be worth doing as I'm learning and getting into things.

In summary I can't wait to get back out there and applying/learning new skills Thanks for all the useful info, I've read through tons of threads in prep haha!
Glad you had fun! I'm not in an f8x obviously, but if you are looking for more seat-time in DFW Apex HPDE is a great group. I'll probably be out at their next Cresson event on the 13th. Worth taking the Friday day-off for some track time Driver's Edge also does 2-day weekend events and has some of the best instructors around. BMW CCA will also be at Cresson on the weekend of the 21st but I think the Novice group might already be full.
Vorshlag camber plates are great and totally would say you ought to do them if you start tracking more. One of our local CCA members was the test-car for their new design for the f8x and has said they're quiet and he's had no issues.
Also, check out or local BMW autocross too sometime, there's an event coming up this Sunday.

Congrats on your first track day! My first was at one of the M Driving days at cota a couple of years ago, so pretty tame but still had so much fun I knew I was instantly hooked too! Remember calling my wife on the way home and her just sighing when she could hear the giddiness in my voice

When you mentioned changing tires to drop a bit of time on the track - one thing to consider is that being faster might not necessarily be the best thing for a beginner. It doesn’t have to - but it definitely can slow down growth a bit. It raises the line to a higher speed - just that much harder to get to and typically requiring a bit more reactionary speed and skill to bring the car back. You might already have this down from other adventures so might not be applicable in your case - but if not just wanted to give you a heads up. Recovery is typically easier to learn at lower speeds so while adding grip right now might seem like they way to go it might actually be the opposite.

Also boost by gear is nice - you F8x guys and all that fancy power - awesome to be able to adjust as needed.

Welcome to the addiction!

Congrats on the purchase.

I have no regrets on my P-car purchase, only that I wish I had more time to drive it. Just had mine in for it's yearly service, and just 1000 miles driven since last time. The concierge-like service department experience is almost worth getting a Porsche, lol!

I still technically have three BMW's, so I feel i'm entitled to check in here once in awhile. Now, if would only get that darn lap time thread updated.

Not purchased yet, put a deposit down to secure summer 2021 slot. I am very much looking forward to it though .

It's agreed value. I think this season I was insuring for 70k for $340 per event. This includes buying a 6 pack at a time and the PCA/BMWCCA discount

If you only do say 4 events in a year the other 2 would carry over for the following season

Something I really like about them, besides that they're a small company owned by racers, is that if a friend is flying over from Europe for an event and using the same car I'm insuring there's no extra cost even though we're running twice as many sessions.

Finally made it to the promised land. Wasn’t expecting it to be open, going to try and get on track tomorrow, but Merc crossover is certainly not ideal.

Awesome. Merc crossover rental? Ring is a public road, fair game I'd say.
