If you're going for track use and modding, just do the CBC and VTT Splinelock solution. At that point, you're good to tune the car past 600hp.
The cost is around 2-3k. I don't see that as a big hurdle. The new G80 is heavy, has floating brake calipers and isn't as track friendly. I'm totally passing on the G80; rather go P car route than get that. Quote:

If this is a car you are planning to keep long term, get the crank hub solution. Otherwise, you're gambling.

I just had the 1-piece style installed in my F82s built motor. Billy at BMB sold and installed it when he built me up. Both have a CBC on top.

what would warrant going with a 4 pin hub vs a 2 pin?

The one noted failure of the 2-pin had no CBC on top and the crank bolt came loose (bad install). That's why a pin snapped, cause it rattled in the crank holes after the bolt had backed out.

No updated hub. There was mention of a updated bed plate that was supposed to reduce the resonance but I think ultimately, the numbers are showing that they are occurring across the board regardless of year. The M2s also have the same vulnerability.

Cross posting from the poll results:
Here is the March 31, 2022 Poll Data summarized: Stock [N=758] vs Modified [N=587]: Stock F/R: 2.9% Modified F/R: 18.9% 6MT [N=465] vs. DCT [N=880] + Stock vs. Modified 6MT: Stock [N=277] F/R: 4.33% Modified [N=188] F/R: 23.9% DCT: Stock [N=481] F/R: 2.08% Modified [N=399] F/R: 16.54% Failure Rate by MY 2015 [N= 459]: 9.59% 2016 [N= 323]: 8.05% 2017 [N= 192]: 7.29% 2018 [N= 371]: 13.21% Interesting that the 6MT F/R is actually higher than DCT, since everything I've read seems to indicate harshness of DCT being a major factor. However, the biggest contributor is still modified vs. stock. Also interesting that 2018 seems to have a slightly higher F/R than the other MYs even though the ratio of modified vs. stock is similar to other years. |
