Coding Lights
I picked up a 2017 F82 with aftermarket lights that I replaced with these that I bought used. It seems there are many different light options that came with M4's throughout the years.
- Can you tell me if these are halogen, LED, or whatever other type of light these may be? - I received the below error message after the light swap. I'm using Bimmercode where I also received the two Headlight Driver Module error messages. When going in to the setting, the only option is to restore from a backup which I don't have. Does anyone know what I need to code? I tried setting all options to off and LED under Front Electronic Module but that didn't help. - Is there anything else that I need to do after swapping lights? - What is adaptive headlights and how do I know if I have these? Any help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by keiridin; 11-23-2020 at 12:53 PM.. |

Thanks for the quick response. Do you happen to know if these are the original lights and what year/car they came from?
Do you also know how I can fix the errors I'm getting? |

- Look up your VIN on a VIN decoder site or post it here
- I’m not a coding expert and had someone else code my LED retrofit so, specifically I can’t help much. Hopefully others can chime in or you can ask someone to remote code (Marius76 did my coding). |

The VIN will tell you what was originally on the car from factory. I thought that’s what you wanted to know.
Other than that none of us can tell what your car was supposed to come with or what you have unless you pull a PN of the lights |

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious about the different light options as there seems to be quite a few. All I need to do is get them working correctly. It looks like it's a coding problem given Bimmercode is throwing an error. Although perhaps it needs to be wired a certain way?
Any help is appreciated. |

Yes there is wiring differences depending on what was on your car originally or what it was modified to. Again, I don’t know many people who are going to be able to tell you much without some additional info.
You can PM the VIN to me if you’re paranoid about posting it publicly. Just trying to help. |

Those are Xenon headlights. If your prior lights were Xenon based then the lights that are on the car now should work. However, I do not have experience switching out headlights.

That's the problem, the previous owner had put aftermarket lights on. I received the error messages when I did the swap back to the Xenon's. Now I have to found out what coding needs to be done.
BimmerCode gives me the two head light module error codes. I have a feeling I need to go in to 'expert mode' but I don't know what needs to be coded. |

Your car is coded for $552 adaptive LED headlights. This is shown in the bimmercode ecu list, the headlights modules are red because your headlights are not adaptive LED. The current headlights you have installed are xenon headlights. You must remove $552 (LED headlights) from VO, add $522 (xenon headlights). This is not something you can do with bimmercode, you must VO code with esys and probably do some wiring changes. I know a harness is needed for xenon > adaptive LED.

Halogen or Xenon?
I did the retro from Adaptive Xenon to pre LCI LED I’d make a new thread and post your questions there or do a search. It’s been discussed. |
