Stars on the tire?
According to other M owners and the owners manual online, all tires recommended and equipped on bmw from the factory feature a star on the tire. I recently acquired four tires from a dealer after i got a flat, along with a alignment and wheel lock removal after my key broke. I paid a total of 1770.89 expecting to get bmw specific tires. However, I got star tires on the back, but not the front. After back and forth with the dealer they basically told me its fine when i paid for bmw specific tires and didnt receive them. Ive spoken to multiple dealers and corporate who tell me its fine and " not less of a tire" but I ended up paying 30-60 more per tire. The owners manual online is the only thing backing my argument at the moment.

Star on the inside but not the outside? Are you sure they didn't mount the tires inside out? The PSS is asymmetrical and should have an "inside" and "outside".
Post some pictures. |

First, why do you want the BMW specific tires? Second, why buy them from a dealer and pay their ridiculous pricing? FYI, I got non BMW Pilot Supersports two sizes larger in the rear for something like 300 bucks less than you.
Personally I think the BMW specific versions burn off substantially faster than the generic SS's. I personally have NOT felt any difference between them in grip or anything. |

You paid for them. You should get them (Even though you overpaid from Dealer). Last edited by IK6SPEED; 02-22-2018 at 12:38 AM.. |

There is a significant difference between the BMW star spec and the generic PSS.
I would nor be too worried running the generic in the rear as they provide a wider contact patch and narrower water evacuation grooves. I would however NOT recommend the generic PSS in front. They will make the car more prone to aquaplanning and will likely wear their inner shoulders faster than they should. I would insist that the dealer replaces the front tires with star specs. You went specifically to a BMW dealer to get BMW specced tires, they should comply. Giving you different tires is false representation.

The BMW Star marking is a specification for that exact vehicle. While tread patterns may be similar, the sizing could be completely different in terms of overall radius, contact patch and width. Case and point - a 265/35R19 Michelin PSS Star Marked most likely will not have the same specification and size as the non brand marked tire. It could be 269 in width, or 263. It might have additional bead / sidewall protection, ect. |

Or wear down twice as fast as in my experience.
In the motorcycle world, I had a motorcycle come with a specific Dunlop, made for that model. Well I managed like 1700 miles on that rear tire, which is RIDICULOUS. I replaced them with generic versions of the tire and managed 3000 miles out of the set, all while feeling NO difference in grip, feel or character, in all riding conditions. |
