I'm just thinking. I seem to maybe remember something like this happening before.
Could it be I threw a wheel weight? Would that make sense? |

Light vibration could be either of those, lost wheel weight or track tire wear.
I’ve got a funny creaking sound in my M4 when I accelerate or brake that has started since a track day last month. Funny thing, I had not planned on tracking the M4 anymore but I had a little life left in the track tires that were on it.

A thrown wheel weight is likely. Try using HVAC tape to secure them. Also, a few gobs of tire snot can cause an imbalance.

I’ve had tires rotate a full 90°+ on the wheel causing imbalance. Run a chalk mark at the valve stem and watch em move….

The question of all questions for you F82 track guys:
Have you found a decent sized cooler that fits in the trunk? I have one that has to go behind the seats and it annoys the shit out of me. |

What do you think this should cost?
Dropped off my car to have my brake fluid changed to SRF. I provided the fluid. Change out brake pads from OEM to track pads. I provided the brake pads. Rotate the tires around. I know I could do all of that but bad back. I'd rather be physically healthy for the track days then home on the couch in pain. |

A rep from open track just pitched me on an annual policy for ~$3,500 which covers an unlimited number of track days.
5% deductible $60k stated value I calculate the breakeven at ~10 track days which I think I will do. pp Are folks here generally purchasing annual or a la cart polices? I haven't yet reviewed the terms annual policy but it seems compelling. Please chime in if you have strong thoughts. |

For 75k I pay around 350 for a policy and usually do 3 days per event. 3500 would be 10 events, so most years I would not break even. An issue with these, for me, is that 'breakeven' means you have saved $0, yet paid $3500 up front. What if you break a leg? Or someone gets sick and you don't track as much that year? To breakeven after 10 events is not super attractive, as you'd have to do 15 events to save some money |

Hit 147mph at AutoClub today. Thought I was actually above 150mph but M Drive analyzer shows top speed at 147mph. I could have probably squeezed even more out of it but turning into an oval at high speed takes more courage than skill. I have skill but short on courage... lol. Was coming out of the bank at over 130mph. Fun times!

Cool to experience once in a while, but prefer the more technical track configurations that skip banking. Doesn't add much to the experience imo, not a lot of feel or recoverability up there, big speeds, mega load into the tires so make sure they're in optimum condition (blowouts more likely). Does give the brakes a good breather.

Fellas, a few quick questions.
I have the opportunity to purchase locally a used AP 9660 front BBK. 1. I really like the PFC 08 on OEM/girodisc rotors, is this compound available in the AP pad shape? 2. I guess the larger question is, how do I search what pad compounds are available for that caliper? The Essex page only lists 3 Ferodo compounds, is that all there is? 3. Finally, what are you pad recommendations for a front 9660 and rear OEM rotor setup? Trying to keep the budget sane, so I'm not looking for sprint pads, I like the endurance compounds. I would really appreciate your help and suggestions here...

Ferodo DS3.12 felt very natural to me coming from PFC 08s.

I agree with the Ferodo DS3.12, great stopping power with the BBK.
I have found they wear quicker than the PFC 08 pads, but they don’t squeal at all. I still have PFC 08 pads on my M4, so I know how loud they are.

But AutoClub delivers. It's a great fun track and has a lot of technical sections. I do however LOATHE tracks like Willow Springs (Big Willow.) |

Should be their standard 1.11, DSUNO, 3.12 I would recommend anything but Ferodo. That's not a shot at their performance either because they are really good pads and are very nice to rotors. I've been using 1.11 and 3.12 for a while now (sometimes DS2500 in the rear) between three cars and they have atrocious pad life. I nearly ate through a set of 3.12s in 10 sessions at the Glen with the 9660 and M4CS. Z06 had the same wear issues. They're just too expensive to justify their lifespan even if they do perform really well. You could buy new rotors with the money you save using a higher friction compound that isn't as gentle. Right now it would cost me $850 to do the front axle on the R8 because my front calipers uses 1 brake pad per 2 pistons (4 pads per caliper) and Ferodo only sells boxes of 4. No thanks. |
