So my wife was driving the car back from getting groceries , made a stop at the gas station to fill up the car. Made it home help her unload groceries ect.. Couple minutes i go through the garage to throw away the trash, I smell gas sure enough is pouring gas on the floor . Will upload video. I dont see any damage on the gas tank and, also noticed gas is coming out from the top. Driver side

Highly suggest to get it towed to the dealer and checked out as this is a safety hazard

I ended up replacing the gas tank. They told me there was a seal on the top of the tank that was releasing the gas with all the pressure built of gasses. Was out of warranty

So I dropped off my car at the dealership and was not expecting the estimate to be $4k.

I would attempt to do this myself but sadly do not have the time.

Just a heads up, I got a warranty letter in the mail today regarding this. It states that all repairs regarding the failed plastic cover on the top of the fuel tank will be covered up to 15yr/150,000 mi. It also has a section in the letter to apply for reimbursement of previous out of pocket expenses regarding this. If you haven't gotten one then you may be soon.

So I haven't received any letter yet. Is this a TSB that I can bring into the dealership service department and get it done? Or are they only doing it if problem (gas leaks) occur? Mines is a 2017 F83.

It's a warranty extension. Tsb would only apply if problem is present, they won't just do it for you.

No, it just says that for CA (and the other states that use their PZEV reg), the gas tank is apparently covered under some sort of standard extended warranty which is 15yr/150k. It’s expanding everyone else to that coverage if we’re not covered already.
