That's probably exactly what happened. The car had less than 5,000 miles on it if I remember corrrectly.

Anyone have current auction data for 2017 M4?

Does anyone have recent auction data for 2017 M4 sales? Just curious to see what they've been selling for, or rather what people have been getting on a trade in for them.

Thanks in advance for any relevant info!

Take the car to Carmax and get them to give you an offer.

More accurate than any data from Mannheim at this point on 2017 M4s.

For cars still under the original manufacturer warranty, Carmax is typically very consistent with Kelly Blue Book dealer trade in. Self assess your car using dealer trade in on KBB.com and you will have a good ballpark of what it is worth if you were to sell it in a non private party sale.

Got a couple quotes today:

$57k - Carmax
$57,500 - Local BMW Dealer

I mean both are above my payoff, so a good starting point....

Usually i might agree with this, but i just sold my 2016 M3 today after getting multiple bids over the last couple of weeks. BMW offered $52k, CarMax offered $47k. Not even close.

When did a 2016 M3 suddenly become a 2017 M4

Carmax is a much more objective offer. They don't care whether you buy another car from them or not and simply quote you blindly off their data. It's best to use as a baseline/minimum amount you could get with ease. Just tell them you accept and you will have a check in hand 30min later.

A dealership is a negotiation process just like buying a car. They have so much room to work with on the buy/sell and will move each to reach an agreement with the customer.

It didn't...read the post. I wasn't responding to the M4 auction data question, i was responding to the recommendation to go to CarMax by sharing my experience.

Yeah, i sold my M5 to CarMax a couple years ago so I'm familiar with the process and was happy with their offer at the time. I've gone through the appraisal process with my wife's car too, and it seemed accurate. So usually my experience has been that their offers are on point.

This time i was just surprised how low their offer was. It's worth mentioning that I let CarMax and BMW both know up front i wasn't buying another car so they both had that knowledge. No negotiation involved as the transaction was purely a sale...in their eyes they actually knew i wasn't a customer.

And BMW still beat the CarMax offer by more than 10%.

Again, usually I'd agree CarMax is a good direction to start but they lowballed me this time. Just trying to help the OP know multiple bids are a good idea.

Perhaps you should reread.

It worked for OP as stated it would.

You had older car with more Auction data available.

You need to understand difference.

Thanks for teaching me what i must understand CarMax master. You are wise and all knowing. Good for you.

And shouldn't more auction data lead to less variability in the number, not more? Maybe you can teach me statistics and margin of error too. I'm so stupid!

Lastly, and i hate to be a stickler here, but you only recommended that OP take the car to CarMax, not seek multiple offers. And by "it worked" do you mean your advice would have resulted in OP getting $500 less for his car by simply following your strategy? Isn't $500 a difference? I think i understand that difference.

Some get. Some never will.

If you don’t understand the difference, try rereading a few more times.

Pay astute attention to all words in OP on what was trying to be accomplished.

You might also reread post 6 as this did what OP wanted to find out.

And if you think every Dealer will give you EXACTLY the same thing for a used car, you are really dreaming.
