There are multiple cleaners that you can use, the key is not to get a cleaner that is too harsh on the leather to ruin it. I use Sonax Leather and Alcantara cleaner on mine. But your free to use whatever you choose.

If your wheel is shined to the point of almost seeing your reflection, you need to Leatherique it. Assuming the leather remains physically intact, you can actually get it back to looking like new.
Search on YT for the Esoteric detailing video that goes over how to use the Leatherique system. Follow this exactly, don't shortcut anything. If the wheel is bad, letting the first stage soak for 24-48h is probably what you need to do. |

Just my opinion, but one should never let their steering get so nasty, that they are forced to extremes to clean it.

It’s not nasty, but, as things do, they get dirty from the constant touching/manipulation. You ever have to clean your shoes? It’s kind of like that. Like to keep things refreshed.

I understand, I periodically clean my Alcantara steering wheel every few months, as the oils from your hands dirties the material over time.

The leathers natural tone is a dull matt texture and not shiny. But that all depends on what the manufacturer sprayed on it from the factory. But if your steering wheel is all shiny, this is due to the oils and other contaminants on the surface of the leather.

When my steering wheel leather starts to develop a bit of that shine, I hit it with a clean and damp microfiber towel which seems to do a good job lifting out the grime and restoring the original matte texture. I’d say once every couple of months has been my pace for this ~5 minute cleaning.
