I would just wait, one of the tuners/exhaust manufacturers will get round it. I think the pcw mod is a good option but like wills said it's never going to sound amazing. I had an 2018 m3 comp with mpe and it sounded fecking awful on startup. Personally if you want proper noise buy a c63, that's what I did

Oh and the rattles/general faults are normal, its part of the m experience (so BMW told me) I rejected my m4 comp as it was awful, the m3 was better but still had some issues...

Yes very much so. They will take a bit of time to bed in a bit. And I'm sure someone somewhere will come up with a 'work round'. Just enjoy the dynamics and it being an ///M in the meantime

They also told me it's part of the M experience (in other words)

C63 are very rare in my country due to expensive gasoline. Even when paying 100k+ euros the gasoline is a significant hit. The M4 has pretty good fuel economy in comparison. I much prefer the looks of the M4 too.

the back box are pretty much straight through bar a few perforation holes. The main culprit imo is the centre resonator, so I would if I were you, get rid of that and either get them to weld a x pipe in or remove your centre resonator and send it to PCW to mod and then send on to you to weld into place. I would at least try that before deleting the particle filters! Then I don't know how it would effect the particle filters but could always get a spare set of stock downpipes and gut the innards! then get a BM3 and run the stock map but with cel delete (or run one of the other maps of course...)

The OPF cars have a different engine software than non OPF cars. That could be make also a huge difference sound wise.

How do you know that? Would it mean I'd also have to remap the ECU to remove the OPF?

Because the files are different. I know a company which is working currently on it.

If the ppf is removed, no pressure increase will be sensed so no regen will be initiated. If this is the case (doubtful), it could be as simple as a bridging device to continue sending a 'pressure normal' signal. Although Srac suggests BMW garage says it will throw up cautions and warning lights, I would be dubious that they would actually know unless theyve removed the sensor on a car. I'd assume the sensoring is similar if not the same as a diesel DPF. More research required
There is just one sensor upstream of the filters (mounted on the cat pipes). I am assuming that you can just plug something like a JB4 in to clear the CEL that will inevitably come on if you remove them that you'd be golden... But I don't want to have to buy the exhaust and JB4 to confirm/deny that!

They do indeed have different software (the late 18MY M4 has 1PSI more boost to compensate for the extra restriction in the exhaust). I very much doubt the sound is affected, you still get pops and cracks on the new M4 CP but everything is more muted (would imagine the filters are responsible for that).

Thanks for the Info and confirmation. I see already people flashing the OPF software on non OPF cars

Yeah lol.

But see a flash is a flash, if that doesn't bother you (i.e. warranty) then you might as well just get the BM3 map.

If all you need to do is suppress the CEL then something like an AWRON gauge (or JB4 plugged into OBD) along with a catback exhaust (or get decats while you're at it) would be safer for warranty as you could just put the old exhaust back on and nothing electronic has been tampered with.

You can’t delete the CEL anymore via JB4 or Awron on newer models.

Following this as my car is a year old now so yearning for a bit more noise and less concerned about exhaust warranty.

Removing OPF

Hi, i have VRSF midpipes fitted to my OPF M4 Comp but the OPF is in the downpipes i believe, not the midpipe which previous comments seem to be intimating. The sound is great with the midpipes and really loud when you code the valves open (i used BM3) and there are no fault codes. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on fitting VRSF or similar downpipes with the OPF - i can code it out with BM3 but do you need to do anything physically to blank the sensors etc?

Has anyone fitted an MPE to an OPF m4? I keep hearing conflicting stories about weather it a) actually fits, and b) will throw a CEL.

I know BMW won’t do it btw but I’d order one using an older VIN and fit elsewhere.

I don’t want to map or code ideally.

Yes it’s possible, I’ve just had the MPE back box installed on my 2020 F82 comp, no problems and sounds so much better than stock! No CEL lights!

Brilliant. So it was a direct fit, when you say back-box I assume you mean with the link pipes too?
