Positive battery terminal melt / car start issues
Hi all, hoping someone can help me with this issue. Positive terminal melted and car shut off all power to the motor as I was driving.
Purchased a brand new positive terminal wire from bmw and the car tries to crank but no start. I can smell some fuel as well after the attempt of the car starting. All wires are connected to the new terminal Housing as Im not getting any new codes Anyone has any advice to fix this issue? |

I think you have a bigger question of "why did the positive terminal melt in the first place?". You could have a short circuit somewhere! With you smelling fuel be really careful.

This happened to me also, still trying to figure it out... I'm leaning towards the alternator now since it's OEM and I have 280k miles on my 06 330i e90. I was having to hold it down for it to start before I noticed this. Perhaps it was a bad connection.. or water got into the system.. was getting VVT voltage code but now I have more codes I have replaced the cable & battery & now I have a crank, no start. I have also since replaced the valve cover, eccentric shaft sensor, alternator, mickey mouse flange, upper and lower radiator hoses, coolant temp sensor, oil filter housing gasket, crank shaft sensor, and a few other things I cant remember. So anyway good luck, maybe you can get it right again. I kinda want to sell it, but its high mileage.. and I've put quite a bit of time into it.. wayyy too much actually

Turns out the previous owner put a agm battery in the car and it was never coded. It shorted out the valve tronic motor. And burnt the terminals. Changed the valve tronic motor and everything worked again. Put a correct battery and codes the car. |

Glad you figured it out. Its interesting it fried the valvetronic motor, i wonder if the issues surrounding them going bad could be attributed to battery voltage issues or something like that... Or it might not have anything to do with it. |
