awesome review!!!
lol, i remember watching your awe exhaust review for the 991 on youtube last year. the video really helped with my purchase and this review/video is even better!!!

with the valves closed during cold start, did you notice any valve rattles?
kinda like on stock or your previous akra exhaust(as mentioned in your other vid)?

also, was the awe lot louder with the vaves closed during cold start vs stock? or just different sound with the same volume?

thanks in advance!!!!

The thing that bothers me the most about the S55 is that massive crack, boost dump, fart, or whatever you want to call it at higher RPMs. The AWE reduces this dramatic dump to a minimum. I've grown to like the lower RPM sound this car makes, but really disliked and felt uninspired by the sound at higher RPMs.

I still don't think this is a special car like the E92. BMW gave us everything we could ask for: faster than most anything on the road, fantastic looking, great interior, relatively lightweight, and massive handling. But it lacks soul. I think the solution for me will be to turn over the newest turbo version of the M3 sedan as my daily driver and own a highly modified E92 to quench that thirst for an inspiring car.

I'm not disappointed with the car at all, I'm just really like. I don't love it.
I'm kinda with you here. I need to give the car more time, as I only have 700 miles on mine. However, my super charged E92 was awesome. The sound, and the speed was awesome. That car definitely seemed to connect with me more.

There is a tiny rattle in the first few seconds of cold start, but nothing the Akra or stock.

It's not much different than stock on cold start. Maybe a dB louder.

awesome!!
i was little worried since couple of the vendors were telling me that during cold start, awe non res exhaust with the valves closed will be as loud as stocks with valves opened.
one of the reson for getting this exhaust would be the cold start. i would like to have it closed(for my neibors sake) and not have to hear the rattle/buzzing sound from the stock exhaust.
thanks again!!

Money, you better not EVER complain about your wife.....if she allows you to spend this much time with us, transmitting such awesome info. Every year, celebrate that marriage, man. LOL

Many thanks for such a thorough review. You so often help us make more informed decisions. Glad you're on this forum.

Thanks for saying that man. She is wonderful and really gets me. She encourages me while still keeping me under control. It's hard for me to not become a maniac in everything I do. Without her, I'm probably in the looney bin.

That being said, check out this crazy project that I took on and am writing up this week.

Great write up. I am not a fan of the fart either. The AWE did sneak a few peeps out. I've gone with the Full Akra including the Akra DP's, (ordered and paid for, Fitting next week) So I am suffering from Akra-Povety at present.

I believe there are flashes coming down the pipe (so to speak) that can eliminate the fart altogether. So I am not in a hurry to get a tune. (That's why I ordered the Delete-R)

I am tossing up whether to get Dinan CAI or GruppeM Cai to add and by then hopefully more flashes are available to tie it all together and finally give the car some relief from wind! I love everything about the car except the sound. MJ

My guess is you are going to dislike the rasp of the Akra with down pipes. I want the extra HP, but down pipes make the car sound way worse to me.

Thanks for replying. Surely it can't sound worse than stock? I can handle louder. It just needs to be different. Coming from E39 M5 with tubi was awesome and my E92 M3 with Gintanni. But the ///M4 just sounds weird.

I guess I will know next week. Cheers MJ

I'm completely with you man. The F80 sounds super weird. I had the Akra before the AWE. In my opinion downpipes make the car sound terrible. Amplifies the fart and overall makes the car sound super hollow.

I hear you on the Fart. However with the flash tunes, you can get rid of the fart completely. (or so we have been told.)

I am hoping with the addition of either the Dinan or GruppeM CAI that will introduce more Induction sound, and perhaps even a little more turbo sound to sweeten it up. Fingers crossed.

ESS Flash can turn off overrun, which is what you are describing.

Tom, are there any negative effects to eliminating the overrun? If so, I might be convinced to ditch the baby Dinan tune for the ESS and some down pipes.

Yes, thanks Tom, its one of the ones I am considering. (I fully believe it can be done, I was just being clear that I did not have first hand experience of this YET!!!) I am just getting a few more mods fitted prior to tuning. MJ

I would have been all over the ESS tune had it been available before the Dinan.

I am surprised Dinan did a piggy after Steve Dinan did that lecture on Youtube years ago about the evils of piggies. But he has gone now. Each to there own, but I am a flash type of guy.

I wonder how close Evolve is getting to an actual flash.

Really? The tune can tune out the fart? I was really bummed that CA DMV won't give me FRTSHFT for my new F82

Is the iPE louder than the Awe non res?

We've had both in the shop. I would say iPE Evo *Non Resonated* is the same level of sound as AWE Non Resonated
